For what this is worth, because it is hearsay, my source had it direct from Fahour about two years ago that the Board asked him to stand for Prez. His reply in as many words was "First you spill all Board positions and let the members vote. Then we will decide". They declined. Now he has clearly had enough.

Smart man.

My guess, they expect pick #19 not to have been invited. If he's there we've won the draft.

As choo's saying: not all draftees attend the draft, only 15-20 high calibre candidates get invited, and we have 3 of the first 11 picks (at least before bids).

So unless we pick an Adelaide boy at 19 and he agrees to rock up, it's 3.

They need that may because after round 1 half are going to be melted.

Forget Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon* and Hawthorn, North Melbourne have 21,000 members, thats where we are at!

The sad truth is, only the rusted on Carlton folk would bother with a membership.

The upside is, we have just as many "supporters" as anyone out there, most are not prepared to commit to anything other than one or two games a year with mates. They will come out of the woodwork should we see some improvement. Until then, this is the new normal.

Carlton is lucky that is has so many wealthy benefactors, otherwise the club would have folded.

Carlton's 'new norm' was created by the mistreatment of now former members.

There's a lot of time to pass before some of the wounds heal.

I got my renewal pack during the week. It included a Chemist Warehouse gift card. Right now I am on death's doorstep with a debilitating cold. Perfect timing.

4 weeks to get 12,300 memberships. Pretty sure there'll be some freebies floating around during December.

Hi Steven,

Firstly, congratulations on a terrific night for the football club. As a supporter I was walking a little bit taller this morning in the knowledge that Stage 1 of the rebuild had well and truly commenced. For the first time in many years, I am excited with what the future holds.

As I watched the draft last night a few of my Carlton friends showed me the text message they had received from 'Jacob Weitering'. A nice gesture and good use of the technology. But these friends were already members and indeed that's why they had received the message. The missed opportunity was never more clear.

I'm all for rewarding those who have already made a commitment to the club - however Carlton need members. If I'm not mistaken, the goal is 35,000 prior to Christmas. I know the club has phone numbers of lapsed members or those who haven't signed up yet. The club need to strike while the iron is hot - and it hasn't been this hot in a while. It's these supporters who should have also received the message. I can't imagine this would have been cost prohibitive.

The club has communicated for some months about a change in direction and doing things better. If the club is serious about living in the present - it needs to do just that. There are many supporters like me who are sitting on the fence about becoming a 2016 member. Converting 'supporters' into members doesn't just happen and it is incumbent on you as CEO to drive it.

Please pounce on the opportunities! I look forward to catching up with you soon.

Kind regards,

_____ __________ (lapsed member)

...and sailing past the Saints now who are just shy of 22,000 and the Doggies who are just shy of 19,000. Still a fair way behind the Cats who have 33,000.

To be a Cat Member costs a fortune as you have to pay for a reserved seat at Skilled( Very little standing room .They have come along way and are another club where we used to have more more members

True

plus we have been going downhill for a few years whilst those you mention give their supporters a glimmer of hope and highly probable to make finals and maybe a GF!

Makes a huge difference this success thing
