The midfield fluidity was awful BV and that hurts your ability to move to HF as much as anything else.

Can't expect a CHF-type to bustle to every pack; the goal should be to secure more uncontested footy in fact. I agree that others are knocking Bell a bit in terms of his ability to find and win the football, I just thought he played hot potato too readily at times. It was 'selfish' football all round bar a few names, namely Yarran, Wood, Henderson, Judd, Simpson, White and Docherty; players going into their shells and only thinking about the immediate contest rather than knowing how best to support the structure and their nearby team mates.

That said, you don't win football games on heart alone. White was simply awful as a midfield mover, and I don't give a shit if he broke even with Martin when I would have happily taken another goal from him and 20-25 less possessions from their loose midfielders due to a less match up focussed defence.

Henderson might have worked hard, but he had one assist and 2 scoring shots all night, and was mostly worthless as a leading target. He is too honest as a forward without being a man mountain or aggressive in his leads. He needs to play a lot smarter as the ball is kicked into the 50 or he will either find himself in defence or out of the team. Again, I don't give a @#$%&! about work rate if it gets in the way of impacting on the scoreboard.

Our rotations - in lieu of Thomas, with Gibbs playing more than the 3 quarters intended - were also @#$%&! awful.

..no..

....was there team work through the middle..?.. ..was there consistent two way running..?.. ....this has been the problem for several years.. ..different coaches, different game plans, same on field mistakes.. ..after a while, you have to face facts.. ..it's the players..

It must be easy sitting in your lounge chair. Team work through the middle? Considering we flogged them at the centre clearances I'd say yes. More contested possessions, more tackles.
Plenty of hard chasing which you wouldn't have noticed on your TV screen.
"lazy, selfish players", I don't think so. Mind you, if I was one of our players, I wouldn't be spilling a drop of blood for some of the so called supporters on this site.

The lack of a presenting option at CHF impacts the ball movement off half back more than vice versa.
You comments about Henderson finding himself out of the team are laughable.

Make no mistake, this is a bottom 4 side end of story. And Mick is waaaaay past an AFL coach. Totally unacceptable on all levels.

Bell.....very average hacker.
Murphy.....has CFC ever had a more insipid Captain. Never seen a so called good player get tagged out so easily.
Jones.....there is a reason a bottom of the table side didn't give him a game. No tank.
Carrots.....yesterday's man.
Judd....was a great player, not now.

Seriously, we need to play the kids from now on and finish bottom 2, get the draft picks, let Mick go, and rebuild the CFC.

We are not even the modern day Tigers any more. We, the once proud CFC, are the modern day Dees.

Oh dear.

They are at this point but if you were picking a team for Geelong, Hawthorn or Sydney would you play Henderson forward?

No run. Smith presented well in space and was ignored.

Murphy soft as pig $hit. Not Captain material.

Docherty was a champ very brave, our best player of the night.

$hithouse field kicking.

Judd hit targets, something the team can't do.

I Can go on forever.

Not happy

Great post

We have not recruited an A grader since Judd. Daisy was an A grader in 2010 but now is B at best and not very often. Jones is a C grader wanna be B grader who probably won't make it, and Jaksch is a B grader with potential only.

Compare this with the Hawks and Cats. Laughable.

Gibbs early.

Hendo????
I'm too perplexed by it all but I will say Henderson was crap. He needs to be dropped, try Casboult.

$300k, Kingston Heath GC mbership and all, but can't kick goals!!??!

Considering he's the only tall forward we had on the ground who understands how to play the role, it would be stupidity not to. He may be a good average footballer but he's the best option we have.
He understands when a lead is required. He understands when it is essential to have a long bail out option. He knows when to push back to assist the defence. He just needs someone else to stand up and help. Until someone else remotely puts their hand up, he's our only viable option.

We are the only Club in the AFL that goes backwards every year whilst all other Clubs move forward....

It is pointless to talk about the players and their performance. It is no longer about having some heart or some effort or something to show they Care. It is all about football ability and skill and our Boys just don't have it..

The only Person to Blame is Mick.... He is slowly but surely sending our Club to the Dark ages....

The Biggest Scam in the history of this Club is the Appointment of this Coach who is going to destroy the Club before he walks out. The Game has clearly gone past him... His old, boring and predictable Game plan is laughable and beyond a Joke!!

He got rid of players whom we couldn't afford to lose. Today, it was revealed on SEN that Mick has told Eddie Betts to walk as he was not interested in paying him the extra money he deserved. Why? because Pathetic Mick wanted 700,000 to be given to Daisy Thomas....

Speaking of Daisy, what has he done to deserve all that money?. No one is to Blame but Mick alone......

I am so Angry at this Pathetic Club and the way they have handled the playing Group....How could you get rid of proven Winners like Waite and Gartlet and thinking we are going to be able to replace them easily?

Some of our Fans are seriously beyond delusional. They are excited to have a hack like Jones to be playing for us because he is going to give us 2 goals a game from 2 disposals.... We are beyond a Joke....

Hats OFF goes to Synbad.... he was the only Guy who knew where the Club was heading years a go, He must be sitting at home and having a good laugh because everything he Spoke to in the past is coming True!!

The Club must seriously Remove Mick and start from Scratch... From Zero.....

PS: Can someone please tell me who was that Genius who drafted Clem Smith?? where on earth did they find this guy? Is he even a footballer? What a Shocker of a Selection....

Players who are ready to take the next step in Buckley & Casboult are left whilst our Aging players are running out of battery...

Missed shots hurt early then the lack of run and pace showed.

Curnow, Everitt, Carrazzo, White all tagging...very slow when you add in Cripps Bell and lose Thomas early.

Deledio, Cotchin and Martin relatively quiet but the tigers have a decent 2nd tier of Miles, Ellis, Vlastuin and some others like McIntosh.

Murphy a stinker. Jones glimpses but not enough.

Docherty very good. Simpson/Judd gave their all.

In the first half looked like they were trying to possess it a bit more via handball and take some risks through the middle which worked some of the time, then reverted to the bombing down the line and again there was no kickout strategy. Lot of Richmond scores started from Carlton's forward line...lack of pressure there is a big problem.

Good post as usual, Effes. Agree with everything.

The team is too slow and defensive because the balance of the side is all wrong. The side is overloaded with plodding, blue collar-types like Bell, Carrazzo, Cripps and Curnow, presumably in an effort to compensate for our relative lack of genuine, outside runners. Thomas going down just compounds the problem. We surely need to bring in Buckley, Tutt or both for one or more of the abovementioned "plodders" to at least inject some zip into the side.

This is why I haven't signed up this year, nothing is changing on the field. So predictable.

Would be funny if it weren't sad.

And Judd is still our best player

x2

Put him CHB. It's the hardest position on the ground, CHF, but he's very average at it. Great bloke.

well... shit.

It's all been said, but the captaincy need to be removed from Murphy. His performances since taking the captaincy have been sub-standard and continue to decline.

Our recruiting and list management has put us so far behind. When you look at this list we are a decade away from being anywhere close to challenging.

What a shit week

I can not understand the criticism of Henderson and Jones. We were static. We butchered the ball. Not easy for our forwards. We have to select players that give us a chance to win matches not save them. Buckley sheehan walker casboult tutt boekhurst and dare I say it Warnock. Curnow, Carrazzo, white, wood are not the future. I hope Cripps finds a way to spread from the contest. He looks slow.

Goal kicking is still horrendous. I think we could have really put the Tigers on the back foot if we got 5 goals up. They are such a momentum side, once they got a little run on I knew that we were in big trouble.

Those two kicks from Murphy and Yarran into the 50 had me pulling my hair out, simply not good enough from senior players.

No pace around the ground apart from Yarran.'

Sub selection was mind boggling also, one coach said it was a bad idea for a first gamer to be a sub and he was proven right tonight. I hope Mick learns his lesson from this.

I just don't think he leads the forward line in the actual creating of attacking avenues and hasn't for a while.

Do you have it on good authority that he has the right idea about what he's doing and what he should be doing? Because sometimes it feels like he's just getting a pat on the back and the coaches are hoping for the best.

Are plodders of the highest order. I'd rather see a kid get a game.

Murphy, Gibbs, Everett, tuohy, Jamison, etc are just pathetic. They'll play better but what about a little bit of spirit in the first game. What about setting an example?

We have kids?

Murph doesn't have the ticker for it anymore. Since copping all those hits he has come back a shell of his former self

When the club has to continually say how he is learning to become a better leader, you know he ain't one!
