I must correct you there. Lucas was notoriously awful at VFL level.

Watson should be given every opportunity to hold a key forward post down early in the year. He grew over the 2nd half as a forward and still relatively young for KP. The fact he was pushed back into the VFL after just 1 practise game, sums it up.

Just as much an issue of team balance than the merits of one player than the other.

Not entirely sure you can have Watson AND Casboult in the same forward line. Just too slow and one dimensional, especially without great smalls around. Without Kreuzer, Casboult wins that easily as he plays the role of the second ruck. It's either him or Warnock to compliment Wood.

Think Watson deserves it more than Jones currently, but deserves means nothing. Especially when they play completely different roles.

..yep, I agree.. ..Jones is Not an auto inclusion, I'd rather give Watson the first couple of months.. ..watto's best afl game is equal to jones', with a third afl experience and two less years on the system.. ....watto has also had the better pre-season.. ..and no defender is going to spoil around that massive skull.. ..watto's last afl match he had 16 disp, 4 marks, 4 goals.. ..not too shabby for a 'dud', hey.. ..what did Jones do in his last afl match..??..

..watto is 22.. ..and contrary to the talk that he is hopeless as a defender, he actually was pretty good considering,, for a young big kid just starting out, sure a few mistakes but all the defenders gave up easy goals over the passed several years.. ..our team work down back has been woeful at times, with little upfield help from two way running mids.. ..but in those games he was young, he has only played 19 games, and he's a big guy..

....forward or back, let him roam across the flanks.. ..he's got a better running capacity now, and up forward he runs hard on the lead, and at the kicker too.. ..he's a good mark with hands Out Front.. ....his two big weapons, and they are elite skill, are his kicking (short and long), and his reading of the play.. ..he is not a lock down type, which is how we have tried to use him up until recently..

..Bolt is our back up ruck forward, main ruck will be out of wood or Warnock from until, who knows.. ..we can carry three big guys up forward, cps at least one will be up the ground and one will be the resting ruck.. ..but have to be all hard working, hard running big guys.. ..which is the big question in regards to Jones, and Knockers doesn't run at all when resting forward.. ..smalls and mediums up forward need big engines and some pace.. ..some talk Judd will be spending half his time up forward..

You forgot Henderson, and no - I wouldn't put him back as I think Jaksch shows a lot more than Watson, Jones or Casboult.

Same structure barely works for North on a consistent basis, with one of the best small forwards in the game in Thomas, and Brent Harvey as well.

We have Tutt, Buckley and Judd who's never really shown anything up forward.

..two big permanent forwards, I'd choose Hendo and Watto.. ..Bolt is Forward-Ruck.. ..KJ is so skinny still, he is a few years away from key position size I reckon.. ..Jones I'm not convinced on, I'm dead set against flaky lazy undisciplined and inconsistent players.... ..would love to be very wrong on this, because the more talent the better.... ..but six years for sweet eff all.. ..Walker is a medium that can play tall, I think Menzel looks strong in the air as well, and Crisps is another that will play a balance of inside mid and resting fp.. ..there's a lot of marking options.. ..but we really hope to see a lot out of the options Bucks, Smith, I'd seriously use Yarran.. ..down back we can 'spare' him, Doc can do the same and Yarran up forward brings the only elite small class we have..

Judging by the tweets about the VFL practice match, Watson, Graham, Armfield, Buckley and Dick all played the four quarters.

Based on that I'd say Watson and Buckley are going to be the subs up at Bendigo as the other three played through the middle.


Agree, but Watto seems to more capable of kicking a bag and isn't a liability by any means. Others can fill in as ruck, including Watson.
