Agree with padre...it's now about how smart you are with your recruiting (of players and employees) and development. But it's been about that since the chequebook was taken out of the equation.

Warnock set the tone. He was pathetic!

Yaz just has a tendency to want to socialise too much with the "brothers"
Not a good look when you're getting pummeled. He is another example of what is so wrong with this club. A player who is seemingly unable to reach his potential. He should be a midfield jet by now

The bottoming out process continues

synners you have a serious lack of respect for people on this site. your high and mighty attitude is beyond a joke

we all have opinions, and just because they may not be the same as yours does not mean we are wrong, and that you are right all of the time.

I agree with a lot of your posts, but you are so full of your own opinion, and you show an amazing lack of respect for others

you are one of the most arrogant, condescending tools on this site, and your blatant arrogance and superiority complex pisses me off.

you do realise that it takes all sorts of people to maintain a site like this, and that your constant putting down of others only makes you come across like a pathetic small man. you must take great pride in putting everyone else down, were you so neglected by mummy when you were young that you have to try and bring everyone down to your level?

we are all pissed at the club, but let others have a say too

I don't have Foxtel anymore... great for my blood pressure and bank balance.

What it means is I have the best seats in the house courtesy of the matchday thread.

So last night I had half an eye on the scores while watching music videos on YouTube. One of them was Little River Band's Reminiscing from 1980.

It should actually become the theme song for the Carlton Football Club.

Most games I've attended in the last five years feel like a LRB revival group. You look at the Carlton fans and ask when was their heyday, and you think it was about 1980. You look on the field and you think you see a guernsey with some sort of aura and presence, but it doesn't quite have the notches or the Avco sponsor label anymore.

You see they've gone out and recruited that gun John Farnham and put him in charge. But while you know he has a great voice, it just doesn't feel the same as when Glenn Shorrock was behind the mic.

That's what Carlton feels like to me. An organisation wishing it was still 1980. The kids barrack for someone else, the guernsey looks the same but different, and every couple of years there is a new John Farnham coming in with the hope they'll recapture the magic they had with Glenn Shorrock, but the rest of the band sticks to the same old parts they played in 1980.

Until the club as a whole slays the Avco era, we're going to stay the same. A club in 2014 reminiscing for the early 1980's, hoping Malcolm Fraser is PM and that the only competition in the charts is Air Supply.

bender, you need to pose it as a question to have the impact synners does. That's how you make a post have impact (apparently)

...and while 'Playing to Win' is a great track - it reads a lot like a Carlton fan giving the club an ultimatum as to why they should become a member.

If you want me, come and get me,
You don't have a chance if you don't move now.
I'm not waiting, Any longer,
Know that I'm playing to win this time.

When you make your move,
I won't hesitate.
If you take too long,
You can be too late.
This time I'm playing to win.

If you want me, come and see me,
Don't wait around for another chance.
Make your mind up, make your play,
You should be playing to win this time.

I care so little now that I can't even be bothered ranting. Why should I give a f$%# if the players obviously don't?

Unfortunately as a club we haven't and still don't understand that.

i like most people here...
i taunt because if i dont taunt people are so comfortable theyre robotic in their thinking prowess
taunting people makes them get mad

i prefer people mad than the frog in the boiling water

most people have been the frog in the boiling water

the club has been the frog in the boiling water

now lets get this straight.. im not pissed off sydney kicked 10 goals to 1 point in the third quarter..
im not angry about sydney getting 112 disposals to 58 in that quarter
im not angry that they had 47 contested disposals to 2 in that quarter.
im not angry they have buddy.

im angry at where thi club has allowed itself to slip to over a long period of time
i could see it... i am not even in the industry...so i ponder as to why they couldnt
all these ex footballers.. and lawyers.. and printing press tycoons...

it was lonely looking at this club from my perspective over the course of years ...

people are starting to see it and getting angry about the swans game.. or about malthouse...

still dont see the big picture....

he big picture is this club is dead from what it once was.. cover them mirrors...grow a beard and mourn

it can come back to being a normal club...but even that will take years.

but there is no way it will ever be huge in my lifetime again....

and we have ourselves to blame
we were not vigilant

we didnt demand answers
we never even asked the questions..

we just followed

I don't know why we have to keep repeating the same old stuff. Yes, the committee of unelected billionaires has been poor. Our appointments have been bad...3 coaches in a row sacked in contract. Ratts did an okay job but was way too inexperienced and we should have looked harder and done better. Our recruiting has been poor, look at all those picks beyond #1 that have been flops.

One example we give up a first rounder for McLean while the swans give up 39 fir kennedy, now he is way better than the swans thought but we almost always overpay they don't. I really dislike malthouse, he is a bitter self serving egotist, but he was a very good coach, as have many other now retired coaches. He states he came back because we begged him. He had retired he appears to be driven by a need to prove McGuire wrong. We have invested hugely in him so he needs to be better than just okay.

I can't believe how many people are satisfied with our performance this year. And MMs selfishness and self preservation were there for all to see this week. His ludicrous statement that e swans were the best list he has seen. He must have been looking the other way when he was coaching a state of origin quality kist at the eagles. So immediately we are playing the greatest side ever so 12 goal loss totally acceptable. Imagine what pressure hardwick wd be under if the tiges lose to the swans like this, and he has a worse list than us. Then Micks presser was embarrassing as he was his usual bellicose blathering self. Looking angry, stumbling over meaningless stats with less coherence than stats ratts and generally accepting no responsibility for the performance of the side and blundering on like an out of touch ceo trying to explain a company failure he doesn't understand and wants to accept no responsibility for. He has lost it.

Paul mccartney and bob dylan used to write great songs, they don't anymore, the stones used to be a great band but aren't now. Coaches have a useby date and mick's is gone. He is as nasty and unlikeable as sheedy and about as useful as a coach nowadays. And don't tell me he is right to act as he does in pressers. Yes you get some dumb questions but it is the only time the coach has to provide some genuine explanation to the fans who keep the club going. I am not interested in airbrushed cfc videos. We are years away, and surely no-one thinks meandering mick is a long term solution, he sounded like an angry confused old man after the game last night. Unless MLG has some real steel and smarts we are headed in the same direction as fitzroy. And mick won't give a damn, because he doesn't love or serve the club, he loves and serves himself.

People need to start thinking outside the box like MM. If you can't see what he is doing by saying Sydney has a great LIST then keep crying and saying he should be sacked. When was the last time we recruited 3 ready made players and kept our 1st pick? When was the last time a Carlton coach went interstate to convince a player to come to Carlton. What else can he do with a shit list he was left but try and fix it. Last 7 national drafts- min 3 picks 6 times, 4 picks the other for a team that rarely made the finals. I like the path of picking up ready made young players like Docherty and Everitt because atleast you know what your getting, because in the past our recruiting staff had NFI. Now Rogers is in charge that may change.

When you send out a Middle Weight to fight against the Heavy Weight Champ on his home turf, you cant sook when he cops an almighty beating, as he's obviously fighting way out of his division...
The way people are carrying on about last night you'd ve thought we were 13th, and playing interstate against the side who is a game clear on top and in white hot form........ Oh wait.
