5 year deal

Same length as Carrazzo's contract.

I thought Carrots' was 6 years.

Well, he will wrap up the rising star this year..

Gibbs foor five is fine when rebuilding. We need someone to build around. We'll have plenty more picks after the next two years

A rebuild where you shed all your quality players is stupid. You end up where Aints are - and I don't want to be there. It's not just ground zero list wise but also financially . People who think we should burn the place down are deluded.

Really. I know they are at a low point at the moment but they have some really good young talent. They chose that direction and it's very clear.

Importantly they have hope for the future. Dunstan, Billings, Acres, Longer, Templeton, Shenton, Hickey, Steven, White, Bruce, Weller etc. That is a group of some exciting talent. I have no doubt they will go that way again this year. Probably add another 4-05 good kids to that list.

As a Carlton supporter I want some hope for the future. At the moment there isn't a lot on our list.

Fantastic news that we have our best player signed up for 5 years. We now need to build a team around him !

Was it just me or did Gibbs sound distinctly underwhelmed at the press conference?

Based on your past history, I'd suggest it was just you.

What are your thoughts on the decision and on our list overall, CM?

At just 25yrs old I think it is a great contract for he and the club. I have always been a fan. He is a consistent and durable footballer.

People criticise him but he is a walk-up start into any of the best 22's in the comp so that makes him a pretty good player in my book.

Just thought he would have shown a bit more excitement at the presser that's all, but if you're happy then case dismissed.

Then he'd cop it for being too happy after a humiliating loss. Catch 22

Agree Cazz I reckon this is great for the club - one that he wants to commit long term is only 25 but so we can build a side round him and murphy and thirdly in a team that lacks class is class - the next step is for Gibbs to move from very good to elite -I think we have seen signs this year if he is left in the middle he can do so - if not our best player close to it - a beam of sunlight in a very dark uninspiring season

One to celebrate I reckon

I agree. I expect him to continue to improve the longer he plays in midfield. And perhaps if the side can improve over the next couple of years, it'll help him to improve as well. Good deal. And could potentially be a bargain.

Agree.

It could also be looked at in a way that suggests he does'nt take the responsibility that lies ahead lightly.

The only question for me is the benefit? Our list is poor and ageing. What are our realistic expectations in the next 5 years and how can Gibbs contribute. Having him run around getting 30 possessions a week in a bottom side doesn't help much. Unfortunately the current system doesn't allow for sentiment.

If we let him go we would probably get a pick around 4-5 plus more Salary cap room which can now be stockpiled. There is then a real chance we could get another very good player but someone for 10-12 years.

I like Gibbs but I really do question the benefit of keeping him. I don't really see him as a leader either. From a pure business point of view it lacks logic.
