Did anybody else find the holding the ball decision unusual? How many we're not paid to us? And they got most of theirs for identical scenarios ...very frustrating!
Push in the back to ROwe for Vickery's first mark then umps pin Rowe for identical play up the ground?

Mick coached well. Made the adjustments we needed to win ... we coulda won by 4 goals by the end.

Garlett's kicking for goal is deplorable. I swear every time robinson gets the ball he kicks it straight to them.

Murphy played the best game I've seen him have since Judd was in his prime. Daisy was clever, Buckley could be a gun, Menzel has potential, and Everitt did some good things.

Probably more positives that I woulda thought possible.

Good summary for an optimistist, includes me

Very sad that after 10 years of recruiting we have so many dumb footballers? Wayne Hughes legacy :banghead:

lets not do a hirdy here,,,the buck stops at the top...kernahan and swann fault for allowing wayne hughes to stay on for so long and then to side with hughes when he wanted matthew Watson and ratts wanted jack darling !!!

and lets not forget that hughes went for kruser instead of Dangerfield and lucas instead of fyfe and he only was sacked this year ...laughable!!!

I'm not too disappointed. I wanted heads to roll at Qtr time but they applied themselves and had a crack. Humid nights always make kicking at goal difficult. We are so undermanned for this time of year it's not funny.

I just wish Rowe would really grab the game by the balls.

No chance Duke. I love his effort but his brain ticks over too slow

No superstars
Limited ruckmen

But we have no depth to cover any of these deficiencies because we never draft. The Psychologist could answer this, but when was the last draft where we took more than three players? Was it 2010? The reason I ask is that you're hitting and hoping to fill deficiencies when you take one player in the vain effort of filling a gap - especially when your draft record in the second and third rounds is as poor as ours.

To finish things off, the club never levels with us. Each year they recruit rather than draft and hint that we are heading for top 4. I kind of get the trade for Thomas because Micky would have wanted to get someone in to show the others how to play his brand of footy. But trades for Docherty and Everitt were beyond me in a draft which seemed to have a bit of depth until about pick forty.

To demonstrate what I'm on about, here's a question: if you want to add pace to our midfield from outside tonight's squad, who are you going to call up? It's an indictment on our list management.

So sad, so true.

I cant handle this incompetence anymore and making crap sides like bitchmond look good...

Waite and robbo need to go ....waite has teased for too long and robbo is just terrible. no impact from either one of them on the first half.

as long as there in the team im staying home ....just terrible but in saying that is was exciting to see young buckley and menzel!!! bring on the kids and clean out the crap!!! enough is enough!!!

Say it slowly and then puke:

Dangerfield
Darling
Fyfe

And THAT folks is why we're flowered.

..lazy, they like that shoot out style, but it won't get you all the way.. ..and team was built that way, will take some undoing..

To suggest we're somehow reprogramming players is a copout. You dont "undo" a supposed unsustainable style of play by teaching another unsuccessful method.
Have a look at the way the successful sides have played the game the past 3 years. Retaining possession. Controlling the uncontested ball and limiting turnovers.
Hawthorn won the flag last year and they're evolving that gamestyle already. They understand what worked last year wont work this year. Yet we're trying to play wiith a gamestyle that hasnt had success for 4 years.

The "shootout style" may not bring the ultimate success (which is debatable) but it will win us more games than the antiquated rubbish we played in the first half. Even more revolutionary, lets try playing a style which is innovative instead of reacting or replicating. Nah, thats too hard obviously. Clarkson may be a flog but at least he's ahead of the game, Not living in the past like us.

I actually enjoyed the 2nd half.
it was entertaining with the folks around us. Lots of funny blues and Tiges fans, and no animosity(toward each other anyway..)
Nice to be back at the G, and Bell, Buckley showed good stuff.
If MM is right, then we truly are just warming up, and maybe we could stay out of the bottom 4.
Who knows.
Agree with poster who said there were some weird ump decisions.
will be interesting to see some of it back on the TV.

We keep adding icing even though the cake isn't finished. The icing is questionable too. Happened under Ratten, happened under MM with Everitt. Look at how we went about drafting ruckmen. Then all the 3rd talls (Bootsma, McInnes, Everitt, White, Davies). Up until recently little focus on kicking ability - Curnow, Bell, Lucas, Robinson).

Giving players contract extensions when they weren't warranted (Davies for example). Not having enough picks at the draft - Geelong give themselves the extra chance - it isn't just that though - what about our development and coaching panel? It's clear MM is either not capable of changing tactics or is too stubborn to do so.

The frustrating part is that there IS lots to work with - there are the makings of a very good side but you don't get any sense that they know what they're doing. It's too haphazard; a buggers muddle.

I thought pass it to richmond might have worked, maybe we just kicked it to the wrong blokes?

And I liked the idea of a slow, plodding midfield to stand by and watch them run. Learning all the time.
