Dennis Armfield as BOG for me.... an absolute inspiration in running hard and never.... NEVER giving up!!

If ya wanna find out about the game, read TC. TFS is more for if your wife is away and you're bored and you want some poor sportsman's night schoolboy humour from people who don't know much about footy. ;-)

That makes a lot of sense with the personnel we have.

Yep... proves what most have been saying about our list this year.

We've assembled a playing group that's incapable of adhering to major change in game styles... an indictment on previous recruiting/development/coaching as the game changes from year to year and we need to follow suit and/or counteract opposition tactics.

So MM is now forced to play a tweaked version of Ratten's game plan and further emphasizes the need for a mini rebuild in years to come.

Next four games will be telling...

Every team needs to make the best with what they have, I wouldn't blame the playing group for not being able to play like the pies of 2010. Just as the Pies now would look pretty silly playing like us.

I think its more down to the recruitment that we have a list which wont take us to where we want to be.

That's right, you play to your strengths and ours is that we have the best small forward combination in the league but beyond that it's ambiguous at best. Contested footy (marking and at ground level) is just not our strength. We have players that we've brought in for contested footy but they have their weaknesses which limits their effectiveness. Yes, McLean is doing pretty well but it's not the likes of him that is winning us games of football, he's merely keeping us in it against the lesser sides whilst others are doing all the damage.

That's why I say you get the players you 'want' and then needs virtually take care of themselves - I don't think we've been doing it that way.

LOL.

The majority of posters spout the sort of crap we criticise the media and talkback for running with.

Finey and Robert Shaw have a good review show Sunday mornings on SEN. Much better than anything the TV has on show.

Pretty sure Ratts game plan was focused on winning contested footy which is not the focus now. He even hired Paul Williams as a specialist coach for stoppages/clearances. This is not a tweak of his plan.

Give it up while you're behind.
Carlton are second in the AFL for contested possessions per game.

I sense you are a bit sensitive about all of this.
Everything for you seems to be a race, you are in front and I am behind.

Yeah definitely, it was quite a difference to the crowd at a night game.

I guess 25k is reasonable crowd considering that only about 100 of them were supporting GWS.

A good atmosphere at the game. Great to see stacks of kids there, what an innovation to play a game on Saturday arvo, the AFL might be on to something here! The kids are the future of the game, there needs to be more games at family friendly times.

Was very happy with the margin, considering who was out I thought a ten goal win would be a pass mark.

Army was great. I've always been a fan of his endeavour, but his kicking often made him a liability, but now! Just goes to show kicking skills can be improved, Levi please note.

I hope Levi is given a few more weeks to try to find his feet, but he showed little yesterday. His kicking is still ordinary and if he doesn't take the mark there's not much of a second effort; so slow. I'd like to see Bell given a decent chance to adapt to the pace of the game, don't know that he will be though, he's a great prospect.

Speaking of prospects what about Menzel! If the knees hold up he could be a champion. Then there's Lachie. A future captain of the club?

Here's a deal. You stop making baseless comments which are a complete distortion of the truth and I'll stop correcting you.
Cant be any fairer than that.

Simply cant have forwards who cant kick. Too deflating for the rest of the team.

Warnock and Kreuzer our ruck/tall forward combo with Waite.

While I agree with your premise, I'm not sure how your proposal deals with the problem. :donk: Kreuzer's no better than Casboult in front of goal.

Too right OR qft OR +1.... or whatever you say.

IMO, he should be captain now. I reckon we have 5 players who are A Grade - Judd, Walker, Betts, Henderson, and Murphy. Of those 5, the one who seems to display the most leadership out on the ground (in terms of player organisation, standing up in a crisis, and kicking a "captain's goal") is Hendo. Case closed for me!

Oh, and definitely play him up forward. The team goes up another level when he's there!!!

When we first got Henderson he couldn't take a mark to save himself. After a couple of seasons down back he has managed to learn a bit about judging the flight of the ball and taking a solid grab. I reckon given a few weeks up forward he could become one of the missing pieces of the puzzle for us.

And he is a better kick than pretty much everyone else up there.

I noticed something yesterday:
Hendo, Waite and Casboult started in the forward line and Kruze pretty much went to the defensive half which might be something MM might be tinkering with. Seeing McEvoy playing as the loose man in defense for the Saints might have given Mick the idea of doing the same thing with Kruze, which, I think, worked reasonably well for the first half. Once Jamo was subbed, Hendo went back.

I really would like someone to train Waite to not lead to the pockets. Makes conversions much more difficult.

I think Casboult played a servicable game and provides much more than Hammer, something I said last season, and with Waite and Hendo are actually giving us an injection of contested marks.

A bit harsh.

IMO he was a great mark at the U18 level and got drafted at pick early for that reason.
Tall, coordinated and quick. Ready made CHF, just had to fill out a bit and hardened up.

He marked well enough to hold a key post down back whilst Jonathon Brown ruled the roost at CHF. He was a CHF. He could always mark.

Came to us and could mark.
People remember the mark he dropped in the goal square which could have won us the game. He can still mark.

He seems to be injury free at present. Running like the old days. He always was a good long distance runner too.

He has yet to peak, but yeah you'd want him in your finals team.

Can kick a captains goal.
