I think that we have to Robo for what he is. A grunt player who can play at CHF and in the midfield but will never be elite.

The question needs to be can we be a premiership contender with guys like Robbo in our side?

I think MM will have a major clean out at years end trying to build a premiership list. It's guys like Robbo that will be looked at closely.

King and Psych I agree. I think Cachia provides a lot but also think Robo provides aspects that the team needs. If he is not being paid overs, he is a very good depth player at the least.

Sorry but I disagree. Cachia doesn't bring anything special to the group that Ellard or Curnow doesn't give. I watched him closely today. Works hard etc but isn't clean and is struggling with the lack of space afforded at VFL or SANFL level.

My question is would any of these players at a minimum be challenging for a spot at Geelong? IMO not even close and until we can develop a list to that standard we aren't a threat.

Guys like Robinson, Cachia, Curnow, Ellard may be handy AFL players but they need to do more to make us better. You can carry one or maybe even two to perform a "role" but we need better ball winners, decision makers and runners to make us a serious Premiership threat.

I think we will find at the end of this season there will be a fair turnover of players and I get the impression that several have already had a line put through their names.

But Hampson brings the ball to ground. We missed that today.

Yeah why is that?, he just never seems to have time to steady this year. Boh

Will take any win without Betts, Yarran, Gibbs, Carazzo, ....and Murphy up fwd for a lot of the first half.

Scoreboard flattered them...they kicked straight, we didn't.

Would have liked to see more of Menzel.

Must say Port have some exciting kids, they seem to have recruited well.

Last we lost some of these sorts of games with the players mentioned above playing, so Certainly it's a step forward

Robbo does my head in as well with his lack of composue. But than every now and than he will
take a strong grab and kick a very good goal like his effort in the last. Its hard to get rid of a guy who is capable of that.
We can afford to carry a rough Robbo if we can put a little more polish around him.[/quote]

The polish needs to be applied to Robbo, though you can't polish a turd.

He over runs at a lot of marking/spoiling attempts and the blazing out of the guts and bombing it long needs to go. Perhaps he's retrained as HFF with some simple instructions but even there he seems to be absent minded with his choices, especially when he likes to light up for goal.

He's often under the pump.

I reckon he'd love being a ball carrier but he's not he's a contests player.

Andy Walker would be leading our B&F after 8 rounds. Mick has found the key to Andy.He has developed some consistency in his game.
I really like the look of Jeffy as well. Very sharp and alert. He was very good today.
Kade Simpson seems to really be struggling. I think Mick might perservere but he must be testing the coaches patience.
I would love a Peter Dean type hard man in our backline come the bigger games aginst the better teams.

Frustrating game, but could have been a worse outcome.

Rapt with Bootsma's game. Thought he added a bit to our backline. White provided run. Jamo probably won on points against Schultz, but a few sloppy free kicks given away made it closer than it should be.

Curnow has improved. Boak was ineffective all day. Kreuz had a good game that could have been a great game with some better kicking. Cachia is winning me over, he's not far behind Robbo in the hardness stakes, but much more developed in other areas that I don't think Robbo will ever get close to.

Not sold on Bell just yet. If games consisted of fifteen minute quarters, he'd be alright. At the moment, he's not putting together anything near a full game of footy.

I too thought Lucas wasn't bad. He's slowly improving in the composure stakes week by week, and it's something that's only going to improve with more game time at senior level. Definitely would have him ahead of Simpson who offered nothing again today.

Some odd timing with the sub given Waite laboured through the 3rd quarter.

Had a shocking first half, but was pretty good in the second half.

Really?... I thought had it not been for Bell and Cachia helping stick a tackle it would have rebounded for another 2 scoring shots. Also in second half kicks a floater over a leading forward that resulted in a rebound goal.. I thought he was the least effective player today

I thought Walker was very good. PA targeted him and he worked through it. Some of his run was great and his kicking is so good now he is running in a straight line.

Jeffy was great.

Simmo I thought was good. Played BP and did some really good unselfish things and 1% ers as well as providing some run. Liked him in that role.

As for Peter Dean types I thought White was very very good. I like him. Just does the right things and always there to help. Tough as nails and enjoying his first injury free run.

i thought simmo was ok, far from the simmo of old but still did ok. def lost the pace so he just needs to learn a new role. as for lucas, he can still be a good player , he needs tackles to stick and stop this running backwards when he gets boxed in , its like he doesnt have confidence to run forward and baulk. a bit of practice and he'll improve that

Yeah I can see where your coming from with Simon White.Similar height. He could develop into that role nicely if he learns to impose himself on a match the way Peter Dean could.

Probably one of the kids best games. So go figure. :screwy:

thats isnt saying much.. if thats one of his best games...

you McConville and Nathan Schmook....

he runs backwards kicks backwards and floaters and doesnt make any full blooded tackles.. its just cos he knows he has to and theyre weak..

hes miles of the pace being a good player

Cachia at the moment should stay in the side.
Robbo needs to be there too but he needs to gain some composure.
Bell did ok but he really lacks AFL conditioning.
I thought Brock is falling away last 2 weeks ....

Menzel is silk....

Re your last point.
I was discussing with my mate in the last quarter who in our list of younger players looks to have the same upside as some of the PA group..sure Wines is a high draft pick but I have to say that I thought the future looked brighter at their side of the border than ours......

Ok the key point is potential and how that manifests itself Into reality but for a team that was a basket case last year +, they played a really tough game and cracked in well.

No mention by others but Jamo I thought played a really solid game.
