Taking that into consideration, and Juddy's performance in the NAB Cup GF - is it a fait accompli that Juddy's playing against Richmond?

Sounds silly to even contemplate, but, reckon it's plausible Juddy fronts for the Northern Blues for a half this week.

He should have a run at Northern this weekend.

Should be an experience for him. I don't think he's ever been to the outer northern suburbs before..

Isn't that a bit discerning though? That a player is considered above the reserves, largely on reputation and in spite of a severely limited pre-season?

Based on what you saw on Friday night, would you say he's ready for round 1?

What do the Richmond mids have to do with Joel Selwood?

..this line of thought irks me no end..

..namely, where our list was at the time.. ..crap rucks of the cloke/ackland variety, hammer had just done 1 season with us and was raw as hell.. ..remember, those were the days we even played setanta and kennedy in the ruck, and deluca and that brions bloke were still very much fresh memories.. ..knockers we got tyhe following year, so wasnt on the radar so to speak..

..secondly, we'd just picked up 2 mids with our previous 2 first picks, and were getting judd..

..thirdly, injuries recieved to krooz has definitely dampened what we originally got.. ..prior to krooz doing his knee, he was way in front, if you recall cotchin had achilles problems and his first few years were injury plagued.. ..and if krooz can regain his potential, and it looks like he's moving as well as we know he can once more, then he'll be better most days of the week..

..you can far more readily draft top line mids, than you can top line kpps.. ..and a top line ruck is worth their weight in gold.. ..cotchin is good, he's very good in fact.. ..but there's more mids as good, than there are rucks as good as krooz..

No chance like the game last year -
loss against lions pretty rank but rest of pre-season ok
nervous on the basis that the Tigers are going to win one of these soon -law of averages
Having said that if they couldnt beat us with the team we had at the back end of last season they never will

IF we play to near our capacity should really beat them by 5 goals

Rd 1, I'd go for something like this:

Tuohy, Jamo, Laidler
Yarran, White, Duigan
Simpson, Carrazzo, Lucas
Garlett, Henderson, Gibbs
Betts, Casboult, Walker

Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy

Inter - McLean, Hampson, Armfield

Sub - Robinson/Bell

Duigan only gets a game as no Scotto and we need a bigger body back there without Hendo. Can play tall OK, too.

Hendo only plays fwd in the absence of Waite.

That is a very talented team, should win well. The game is at the G too, we are always so much better there. The boy Lucas will appreciate the wide spaces there, on form deserves to be in the 18.

Great side IMO
but Robbo better than sub

shame bout Ellard was showing very good form prior to injury.

joseph/curnow - still a way off

would it be worth entertaining Rowe or 206 as sub???
in case of big man replacement emergency?

They could be tempted to pick Rowe ahead of Casboult, purely on the basis that Rowe gives another back up tall option down back. Apparently he was quite impressive @ CHB in a NB trial game a few weeks ago.

Haha, very good TBB.

However, back when we did select Kreuz I can't recall too many people saying he was a bad option. I can recall many saying it would be great if we could get Cotchin as well, but can't recall a wave of support for Cotchin only.

Perhaps it does raise the broader discussion that you don't bother using early-ish picks on ruckmen, rather wait until 3rd round and/or poach them from other clubs when they've got a few years under their belts.

Oh I must applaud Carlton for their excellent and continued trolling of Richmond and the media. It worked a treat last year, losing all our pre-season games, looking forward to a repeat performance of rope-a-dope in 2013.*

*Although I do acknowledge we're bound to lose one to them sooner or later. :P

The whole 'oh yeh we should have drafted such and such' really is a bore. Every club has hits and misses. Every club has misses. How many clubs missed out on drafting Betts, Garlett, Carrazzo and there are examples at every club.

Lets be clear though, the Kreuzer v Cotchin argument is far from being decided just yet. In the first couple of years Kreuz looked miles ahead and Cotchin has become the player he was always going to be the last couple of years. Calling it after the last 2 years is as dumb as calling it after the first 2 years was. Kreuzer's injuries have set him back a bit, but ruckmen don't fully mature until they're 24 at least. Hopefully we'll get our ruckmen stuff sorted out soon. I'd like to think both teams won and got a good player.

Kruze will be ok. It takes a couple of seasons to really overcome a knee reco. We know Cotchen is very good but given Kruze's absence over last couple of seasons with injuries I believe he will turn out to be very good also. He must play as the number 1 ruckman and use Casboult and Rowe as the backups. I think the more time Kruze has on the ball the better he will become. Not sure what to do about Hammer and 206. Maybe rest Kruze in certain games.

Playing 3 rucks is crazy talk imo. I'd be more inclined to play Kreuzer alone with support from casboult than play 3 rucks. Kreuzer and hammer is the best combo at this stage as hammer has shown far more than the others as a forward so he takes the 2nd ruck role

I'd consider Casboult a ruckman at this point too btw..
