Watched The Blue Print this morning. Even though he sounds like Pagan and looks like Whitnall, Rogers is very impressive.

I liked his thinking with regards to Cloke. Don't need to pay big bucks to recruit externally, we can recruit and develop from within.

I hope that's the way we go. I would prefer to spend $1M on 2-3 really good midfielders than on one KPP with a family full of baggage.

Yes. I liked that point. He also said they ail be aggressive in chasing the right players. IMO the Laidler deal was the right type. Good players not getting a game because others are in front of them etc.

Well done once again Mikkey.
Interesting BP and Hangout session.

Noticed there were no email or twitter questions yesterday. I hope it's not a sign that people aren't watching.

Laidler was a great recruit, we need to follow this approach more often. I think Hawthorns applied this approach quite well, bringing in the likes of Gunston, Gibson, Hale and a few of the mature age recruits. I see it as a similar philosophy to Wenger.....value buys, whereas in the past we have brought in established players at their peak, which means not much upside and you pay inflated values.

They need to come from good sides. No more discards from cellar dwellers. Laidler wasn't getting a game not because he was no good but because he was at a top team with plenty of established players keeping him out.

I like the "money ball" approach he is using. Key is t get most out of these recruits, which begs the question if our development is top of the class.

I was a bit disappointed that none from here registered for the hang out - recruiting gets discussed often here. The club called me to ask to participate as they had so few. I am the fill in guy ;-)

Last week there were over 200 girls who wanted to talk to Murph....... it's a pity. People should participate in these type of session or we will only see Q&A with players.

People are at work or at school when this is on.

Can Luca hook everyone (club participant and fans) up from their own computers later in the afternoon after work/school hours ?

I think it depends what they want to achieve from it. Do you want fan questions (ie murphy and the girls) or supporter questions (admin etc staff + more specific question about the club and the way it performs). You will attract a different audience depending on which path you take. Personally I thought the murphy hangout was a bit embarrassing but can certainly understand why it would appeal to some.

From my perspective the current formant doesnt work.
1. its on at a stupid time. Most people will be at school, uni or work - you limit those that have the capacity to 'hangout' despite many that might otherwise interest.
2. The guests are all wrong. We've had what? 4-5 offfield + 1 player. If you want a mix then it should be one week admin, one week player, one week off-field

Imo, a much better format would be to use the hangout as a game discussion forum with sellars/maher/player - each week you could have discussions on team selection, match ups, discussions about an individual role during a match, development etc. That is what would engage people.

In addition to that, have the off-field stuff as a once a month special rotating through the various people - makes it less intense for these guys (having to find people to front up without running out of staff to have on) and for the fans (serious discussion less their cup of tea).

Oh, and have it in the evenings so most of us actually HAVE the option to jump on!

ahhh I loved hearing this from Mr Rogers

Quote:
Geelong is one of the clubs that draft and just sit and wait and have some patience. I reckon we’re at that point. Carlton hasn’t been use to that before. It’s been a “there’s the best player let’s go out and buy him.” The rules have changed. We’ve gotta draft and we’ve got to embrace the draft – the supporters and the footy club.

Hopefully those above Mr Rogers allow him to put his vision/philosophies into place.

I liked it but was surprised at the fact there were only three guests. The week before, the panel was full.
I have no idea what time it is on but it might be possible for some overseas people to get on if the technology can cross international boundaries.

The technology (Hangout) is certainly global - just need a google account. The timing might actually suit you BS - 1:30 pm Melbourne time would be Monday evening in Tequila-land

Parko was great today. More in a sense of instilling optimism and making you remember the glory days. Unfortunately the club has not yet put up the replay of the hangout, which is unusual.

Yeah, that's why I'm catching up on the last couple of weeks, which I've missed. Was hoping to see today's ep first.

This week's Hangout not ready yet:
