Ratts putting the heat on the players, for playing selfish individual footy:

Leigh Matthews.

Might knock a few heads together but I seriously doubt he would have won too many flags 10 years ago without Jonathan Brown, and the best midfield group I've ever seen landing in his lap.

Even he's said the key to winning flags as a coach is to take over a great list at the right time.

We have a good list but there are some glaring deficiencies and I doubt he'd be interested (or what we need).

Matthews would be just what our players need right now. Not high conditioning, not stats, just grit your teeth roll the sleeves up hardness that you would think Matthews could instil in our players. Adelaide have practically the same list as last year and look how that's worked out....but on the other so has Melbourne, and that's just gone from bad to worse. We have the potential, I have no worries about that, but someone needs to come in with new ideas because something's just not working.

Why so much support for the wood ducks sitting next to Ratts in the box? It's a team effort - they have to be just as much to blame as him.

Most of the best coaches are philosophers. What we've got is a stats man. An assistant coach that looks at sheets all day and plays a game out on paper.

What we need is someone who thinks about football and solves problems.

Listen to Lyons post match and Ratts and tell me who is most impressive, steely without putting it all on the players, explaining things in human terms rather than kpis and stats. Taking collective responsibility. Ratts is just not as sharp as other coaches nor as good a communicator.

I've heard this before but it's simply untrue. A bake from Ratts is one fierce blast. I've seen it first hand...it's harsh. If you don't believe me - ask Aaron Joseph or Richard Hadley.

Start with our forward line coach, ask any hawks supporter in the know how they felt at 'losing' Barker. Ultimately though our players have to take responsibility, they are the ones not putting in the required effort.

Look, I'm not 100% sold on Ratts being the problem....... But I'm not 100% confident in him either.

Something is just not quite right when you have Gibbs & Kreuzer both struggling for form - At the same time.

Agree, and also the number of players on our primary list who have major weaknesses in their game and just dont look like they will cut it as AFL players means that Wayne Hughes will need to follow him out the door as well. I think we will need a mini re build and challenge again in a couple of seasons.

Yeah, that is the answer.

New coach. Best knee jerk reaction by the talking carlton brainstrust.

Ok Carlton have lost 3 games this season.

Loss #1 - Essendon*.
Essendon* at the time looked like pretenders, but they are surely contenders this year. They have only lost one game this season by 1 pt to collingwood. 3rd on the ladder at the moment

Loss #2 - St Kilda
Up until yesterday week they were in the top 8, now sitting 9th. They are a respectable team. They came out and smashed us and tagged murphy out of the game and no one else stood up. They really smashed our midfield.

Loss #3 - Adelaide
Currently sitting 2nd on the ladder. Smashed Geelong last week and smashed Carlton yesterday. Adelaide put immense pressure on Carlton and made Carlton look bad, by forcing Carlton to make mistakes. Carlton were suffocated and never recovered.

So in summary, we have 3 losses, 2losses to the two best teams in the league at present and 1 loss to a team that was in the 8 last week.

So based on that, we should throw out the coach and start a new gameplan next season. Makes sense doesn't it. :banghead:

Carlton need a key forward to be alongside Waite. Until we do that, we won't have a complete spine.

Is our admin ruthless enough to decide Ratten won't be a premiership coach and start looking at alternatives in the next month or so?

Evans and the Dons chased Thompson from June, then sounded out Hird and dropped the axe when everyone agreed.
Freo chased Lyon who was still under contract.

Our last 5 weeks of footy except for a Freo game where we were OK, has been completely unacceptable. When the problem is endemic, it's not the players alone to blame.

The administration on the whole should commit Hari Kari.

Theyre respnsible for all this.

We were supposed to be the best team in the league

We were the premiership favourites

They won't. They get paid regardless of the result.
Unfortunately with the board, unless someone challenges, you can't change very much.
We grew up with ruthless boards. Harris, Elliot, Collins as manager. If they needed to chop a favourite son they did it. Walls, Jezza, Parkin.
I don't expect them to sack Ratts now, but they need to start thinking about it. The next month or so will determine where we end the season.

So we get a forward and then suddenly our clearances work themselves out?

Genius.

Our contested game sorts itself out?

Genius.

The fact that I am sounding like the Sailor Man, tells you something.

Didn't Wayne Hughes already step down so that Shane Rogers could take over????

Caz: Is that correct?

Does he give it to real players as well or just the fringe.
