Interesting selection dilemma coming up if Bower keeps up that form. Cant sqeeze them all in if we keep the balance right. Jamo has to come in but Duigan may have to fight to take a spot off Bower.

Good to get the 4 points last night. First rounds can produce strange results and teams often have inconsistant form across the four quarters. Cats in 2007 were ordinary early, Pies just got over the dees in 2010 and last year the hawks dominated the Crows for most of the game only to get overrun in the last.
I would say that our overall fitness is geared towards peaking in a week or two. That would coincide with players gaining some good touch coming into big games against the pies and the dons.

KB on SEN is absolute gold at the moment....

Keeps going on about how we were there for the taking and that it was the Tiges blowing their chances that cost them the game. Then went on to say that we wouldn't make the 8 this year :screwy:

If we are not that good and are not going to make the 8 this year, where does that leave Richmond?

Haha. He just got a caller saying how good the 3 Amigos were last night and all he could say was that Garlett should have handpassed instead of shooting for goal. What a sour old prune he is.

Notice how quiet his voice is this morning?

Really the best thing that should have greeted Kevin Bartlett this morning was a board full of no calls from Carlton Members/Supporters just to emphasize how irrelevant this old prune is.

His schtick is straight out of what Lou Richards made a career out of back in the 60s and 70s.

What's next from this complete fraud of a man - cleaning Flinders Street Station with a toothbrush, pushing around a truckload of Spaghetti Bolognaise around Lygon Street, diving into the water off St. Kilda Pier on a cold July morning.

Seriously just dont listen to this miserable piece of flower.

I am a supporter of Paulie B. but...I cannot imagine us not putting Duigan back in...like...immediately! He is surely a lock in our best 22?

The 'wait till Richmond @#$%&! it up' gameplan will only work against Richmond.

But what a perfect gameplan it is.

Horses for courses.

He has no soul. He is the walking dead. Lack of oxygen doesn't appear to affect him.

I wasn't overly worried about last night and even when things were getting close late in the 3rd I just sat there waiting for us to get it over and done with. I'm pleased we ended up winning by 7 goals because the hype around Richmond was ridiculous and 7 goals is essentially a flogging.

I am excited for the next few weeks with players like Jamo and Duigan returning. Hopefully Walker is not far off because I think we missed him more than either Jamo or Duigan last night. I thought Hampson was a little ordinary in the first half but he looked much better in the second. I have bagged Bower a fair bit but he did OK last night, now he just needs to keep it up.

Bit disappointing to see our goal kicking was still by and large rubbish. A little surprised at Thornton and Betts missing some easy shots as they are normally fairly reliable kicks, although Eddie did get cleaned up just before one of his shots.

I thought the new 'sugar coated' Synbad would be a little more vocal after a win. Why haven't we heard from him?

You need to go to the library, and get out some books on how various dis-orders work.

Which finally brings me to my last point: Kreuzer's use of the ball at stoppages.

Forgive my wording: Kreuzer's stoppage work was fine, his clearance work was poor. He should not be the guy on the end of the possession chain unless he is running into space, because between tonight and the pre-season, I've watched him do that same tactic over a dozen times.

Not sure I agree. The only way they stop Kruezer when he does this is for a mid to chase him. His counterpart ruckman has blown up and is shot for coming contests PLUS the chasing mid releases one of our mids... Not many ruckman can have the effect he does, even if it costs an occasional turnover.

I'm really, really sorry to point this out, but can you please read my post? I did say he should receive the ball when he's on the move, and I said he should not be the bloke to kick the ball when in a static position on the end of a chain of possession to set up the clearance. Every time that has happened in the last 3 months, he just launches it nowhere and it more often than not comes straight back.

When he was about and running with support last night, he was bolting the ball down the wing with a chain of handballs. That's a completely different aspect of play, and should be encouraged.

I was very relieved on Wednesday when Laidler was named, and even more relieved when I saw him running around during the warm up at the game and not replaced by Davies. Had he not played last night I dare say the match would've been a much different affair. How did we ever manage without him? Oh that's right, we didn't. Good to see him really testing the knee with some hard running and falling on it. Great recovery.

Thought Gibbs was the difference late in the third/early in the last. Poised, made the right decisions, cool under pressure when a lot of teammates fell by the wayside.

Gibbs with the ball in his hand is in the top 5 in the league easily. Gibbs without possession would probably struggle to be on an AFL list, such is the Mick Mansfield-esque quailty he has of escorting players to the ball at times.

I still wonder why we recruited this dud - as it went against our normal policy of recruitment at the time that was recruiting players that have acually played well against us.

Brad Pearce never had it so good as he had it in the 1995 Grand Final.

I really thought our side looked a lot stronger than the Tiges on paper, so it was a good and expected win.
I love Big K but thought Maric did well ag. him in the ruck contest (tho maybe I am wrong there). Thought Hammo was imposing up forward and dominant in ruck contests (when Robbo wasn't crashing into him). I think we have a very good ruck combo, only comparable to Cox and NicNat and Cox is wrong side of 30.
Like Curnows toughness and he is also a smart thoughtful guy which helps. Always surprised at the flack Carrazzo gets. Thought he was bog. Yarran has sublime balance. Tuohy is ahead of JR who seems to still be trying to find his 2010 mojo. Solid game from Bower. Terrific work from Laidler. He is a great pick up. Great idea to survey fringe players at great sides who need opportunities. He is a really good defender. I might be one out here, but I hate the coach watching from the back up the dugout. He gets a great view of ball ins directly in front of him, but not much else. It is a brave move by Ratts in that it indicates that he has a coaching collective where Richardson and Riley have a lot more power than you would expect, but you'd love the head coach to be able to see the whole ground from the best vantage point, and be calling the strategic moves when things get hot. Anyway good win and when we get Jamo and Walks back in we will be in a position to challenge the Hawks Woods and Cats who are our real measuring stick.
