They're human beings as well though and no one can stay at peak insensity indefinitely. I reckon we should be able to roll Richmond
and Brisbane without treating them like "be all end all" games. Then really go for Collingwood. That, IMO, is the one that really matters.

Wow.. I had no idea they gave out extra points for beating prior year grand finalists.

They're all worth four points. So they're all as important as each other.

And regardless of being professional or not... weird things happen a the start of EVERY season. I can guarantee you that come round 16 this year, everyone will look back at a couple of early resuslts and say... how the *** did that happen.

It may not be worth more points, but it is worth more ... and weird things happen before the start of every season too. Personally I'd rather we told the AFL to stick their stupid preseason games -- we'll turn up round 1.

But in any case I'm quite comfortable bringing the discussion back to points because we won't be getting any this weekend
regardless of what happens.

Collins is the interesting one. Has he already played enough minutes? Or has he not been good enough for round 1 (especially considering the Walker injury).

Duigan is the more interesting out. You would think that if he pulled up ok he would be playing considering the little game time he has had.

Bower tries too much at times, Davies tries too little.

Maybe I'm missing sarcasm somewhere but harsh on Marcus there, Jim. Has tried his heart out all preseason games he's played and did well rebounding the past couple of weeks. It'll click soon and we'll have a very solid medium defender at our disposal.

With the restricted squad sizes this week it makes it difficult if he's borderline fit. There'll be a Northern Blues intraclub game on this weekend where he hopefully plays and shines (along with a few other names), before following up with a half in the VFL prior to round 1.

Call the club to check, but the I think the NB intraclub is on Saturday at Visy.

My team:

Tuohy Hendo Bower
Russell T-Bird Yarran
Simpson Gibbs Scotland
Robinson Waite Carrazzo
Betts Hampson Garlett

R: Kruezer, Judd, Murphy

I: McLean, Curnow, Davies, Lucas

Watson, Armfield & Joseph miss out

I'm sorry, but Bower has to play, we have to know where we stand with him in a serious game leading into Rd 1. From NAB reports, appears he's done enough to go around in this game at least.

JR would want to fire up or a Rd 1 gig for him is at risk. Just think he needs solid footy if he's to regain confidence and touch. AJ stiff to miss, I think it's out of these two for a final spot in this team.

Davies is no good, but Frazer Dale could be better than Fyfe.

Proven how? By your opinion? What was it you said about Hendo last year?

Proven poor judge?

Cheers, Redback

I also think Gibbs will start fwd as, IIRC, he kicked 4 or 5 v Norf last time we played. Ideal replacement for Tex you'd think.

Could say a lot of things about Davies, but saying that he doesn't try would not be one of them.
He's actually a good player completely devoid of confidence and has been for some time.

The one thing that no one seems to know though, is what his contract status is.
Was he given one or two years last year?

If we win this game, no one will question if we're on track or not in the papers.

North hoping he will make a big splash.

Thomas and Campbell would kick 10 goals against that backline.
Unbalanced and too offensive.
Joseph has to play as the small defender/midfield stopper.

Thornton forward, he's best suited there and suits the side better too.

My comments are with regards to what they do in possession; hope that clears things up.

And all I said was I'd prefer the Dale archetype to Fyfe, given that they are similar in playing styles. I clarified that twice in the thread, but for someone of seemingly cold logic you sure do put the blinkers on. :)
