You would want the AFL to do the review?

Dane, i am not sure if you follow stuff but the AFL organise INDEPENDANT reviews for anyone who asks them .
They dont do it, they reccommend the people who can conduct INDEPENDANT reviews.

Of course Sticks can appoint Gleeson to head it up and do his indy review that way.

Hard to follow how INDEPENDANT reviews are set up is it??

How much would this independent review cost? Due to the specialists required I would suggest it would be quite expensive. Who did Geelong use?

Are you sure the AFL provides such a service to Clubs as far as introducing them to independent experts goes? I have not read about it.

well! if the club is going to rely on the gaming. money to bail it out I have a problem with that!
that money has come from an outside source as an extra!
meaning, the club should be busy building up its profit scenario anyway! that is the money and revenue streams they have been working on.

if they have not been working on an influx of in sourced profits anyway the audit is definitely needed to make sure they are improving this in the future.
might be an upfront cost that earns for them into the future!

its only a waste of money if they are excellent on all fronts!

Again guys, please discuss the points, as Synbad and Dane are doing. Otherwise you're just feeding the meter on the same thing you're showing disdain for.

To think I came on here to read a pre match discussion regarding our first hit out for Premiership Points.

maybe this discussion about the Richmond game will be influenced by what the club is doing and or not doing?

much concern about injuries and the way players are being handled rolling into this game and that can have a bearing on this result!

also there is a concern on player development and competition for spots

Is there anyone here who thinks Richmond are going to win in Round 1 as per the thread subject?

Not September, not Premierships, not next week's VFL game... Do you think we'll be 0-1 at the end of Round 1?

I think Richmond are a chance... but I'll have $ on the Blues. Missing 3 from the back and one forward (let's say we have rucks covered). It's not the end of the world. Our defense will have its work cut out but that means the midfield needs to be working pretty hard.

I think we have the ability to knock this one off. Richmond aren't that much chop.

I think this is valid and will be somewhat catered for by the arrival of Hine. Him in charge of the younger players - you couldn't get a better available candidate.

part of the problem with this is that we are expecting the other teams to stand still.

west coast were not thought of as improved pre season last year.

Maybe we will be the team this year that showed no improvement pre season and then ended up exceeding expectations.

For the first time since the fixture was released I now have the tiggies with a chance.

They come into this game with a relatively healthy list and a ton of confidence.

imo, we treated the pre-season as superstars - top 4 as a given (happy to be proven wrong). We have injuries to 3 key backs and questionable replacements, missing our 2011 leading goal kicker and match fitness issues with a few. No new revelations here.

That said, I expect nothing but a win come round 1 - that's what top 4 teams do to inferior opposition - no excuses, from anyone...

Control the midfield, play a floating back and win by 3-4 goals.

summed up well Hornet

talk is cheap and it's now time to put talk aside and act - if our systems are right we should win

Richmond's potential round 1 team:

B: Steven Morris, Alex Rance, Dylan Grimes
HB: Bachar Houli, Jayden Post, Chris Newman
C: Reece Conca, Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin
HF: Robin Nahas, Tyrone Vickery, Shaun Grigg
F: Adam Maric, Jack Riewoldt, Brad Miller
Foll: Ivan Maric, Nathan Foley, Brett Deledio
I/C: Brandon Ellis, Jake Batchelor, Daniel Jackson, Shane Tuck (sub)
Emg: Matt Dea, Shane Edwards, Todd Elton

People are saying our backline is looking ordinary, well take a look at theres. You would think if it is a clear night then Waite will have a picnic on Rance. Hampson will stretch Post for height and the crumbers in Betts and Garlett will smash Grimes and Morris.

Our midfield also looks way stronger on paper.

Thanks Roy.

Plus a defensive HF on Houli and we might shut them down...Russell or Carrazzo??
It looks like Grigg may be player defensive forward...probably Yarran...that would be good for us too.

Got to break their spirit early to smack that confidence out of them. Get them second thinking.

Need Hammer to hold onto them and maybe round 1 will be his arrival for 2012.

Judd Murphy Gibbs Simpson Kreuzer Simpson Scotland Robinson Carrazzo Curnow in the engine room.
I have a good feeling about their ability to turn on the switch and rotate rotate rotate.
They should be too much for Martin Cotchin Foley Delidio Conca Jackson Tuck

Our rucks should maul there's.

Can't see our midfield not supporting our defense.

Richmond are definitely a show, to dismiss their chances is silly.

We are the better side but, in Richmond's favour is that, compared to them, we seem slightly underprepared and undermanned, plus the fact that it is Round 1 where anything can and often does happen.

Jamison, Laidler and Duigan are big losses and you would think that if Richmond get enough ball inside 50 then we will struggle to stop them kicking a decent score. Having said that, their defence is ordinary and if we can control the midfield, Waite, Betts and Garlett would all fancy their chances against their backmen. Midfield will be the key and while ours is better, theirs is improving and Dustin Martin is already a very good player. We definitely have the advantage in the ruck, which will hopefully help our midfielders get first use.

I think it'll be very close and would be happy with any win.

Unavailable: Jamison Walker Warnock Laidler Duigan...all big outs...plus the unlucky Mitchell.

B: Tuohy Henderson Thornton
HB: Russell Bower Yarran

F: Kreuzer Judd Murphy
C: Simpson Robinson Scotland
Gibbs
HF: Carrazzo Waite Garlett
F: Hampson Betts

IC: Curnow Lucas Armfield

SUB: from McLean Joseph Ellard Rowe Collins (not a big fan of McLean and Collins but comfortable with their preseason and Rowe is unproven)

We should do OK...I expect a good win...mids have to contribute with goals.
The midfield will come to play and switched on having lost 5 close games in the preseason.
Gotta get the 4 points.

McLean is not a sub. Either he is picked in the 21, or he doesn't play. Sub must be a runner. This also rules out Rowe, aside from the fact that he is not currently fit.
Ellard also has a knee issue, probably won't play.

That leaves (from your list) AJ and Collins.
Given that Collins didn't make the 25 for last Sunday, he is less likely.
Personally, I reckon AJ is a really good match up for Nahas, and/or Martin, and should be in the starting 21.
I'd use Lucas or Army as the sub.

If ever there was a game we could ill afford to lose in the centre and at the stoppages this is it.

We must take clearances to a new level.

Those outs shouldn't matter if we're any good...beat them last year without Duigan & Jamieson by 103 points. Pretty confident about this game.

Walker out but the enigmatic but very dangerous Waite is in.
Tuohy has come through since the last season opener!
Kreuaer is back....
IM BIG KEV EXCITED!!!
another season starting... we get to beat up on the hapless Tiges!!What more can a Carlton supporter ask for???

I hear CFC TV's next venture will be called One HBF Born Every Minute

Featuring Wayne Hughes as mum-to-be. And Synbad as the young agitated father
