I thought you said you were gonna "load up" on Richmond? or is $30 loading up?

My old man was in a pessimistic mood like a lot on here, writing off our top four chances after our third loss of the year. He was looking over the fixtures for the Coasters and the Hawks, basically saying they'll win 7-8 each and we'll get stuck in Perth in week two of the finals ... if we even make it that far.

So - a little perspective.
The top four over the past four years have looked like this in terms of points:
2010 - 70, 68, 62, 56
2009 - 80, 72, 60, 60
2008 - 84, 68, 62, 52
2007 - 72, 60, 60, 56

Moral of the story is - with 9.5 wins already on the board and 9 games to go - we need 5 wins to push past the 14 wins barrier and, if recent history is worth anything at all, we'll finish top four. We need 5 out of 9. It's not a huge ask.

Plus, we have five games against bottom eight teams to go - Tigers, Dogs, Bombers (feels good!), Roos and Saints. Plus winnable games against the Hawks and the Dees. So whilst injuries and fatigue are a bit of a concern, it's still so much ours to lose. In fact, if we drop any of those games, it will be well and truly our fault.

Just trying to make those glasses look half-full, after a rough 24 hrs.
A win against the Tigers this week and we'll be back in the groove!

Post of the week.

Seriously

No it is not as this year with the addition of the GC you have that extra easy beat if you look at the ladder as it stands now Hawthorn play 7 games against the bottom 4 sides and WC play 6 - we only play 4

so the two teams we are fighting for in the top 4 effectively have been given a 8 point and 12 point head start and the competition is not as strong and you can also say that WC play the 5th Bottom side twice in the bulldogs

Our double games are against Coll - Ess - Rich Melb- Stk -Syd - all teams that are vying for a spot in the 8

60 - points may get you top four but I would say it will be most likely 62 or 64 to be sure

By Saturday Laidler won’t have played at any level for 5 weeks. Surely he won’t be selected :?

BTW nice first post Craig Bradley. Welcome to TC

$50 a week is the most I punt and there are a few horses I wanna back this week!

What's it to you anyway?

Warnock to take all centre bounces, then send Hendo into the ruck with Warnock going forward for general play when Robbie needs a spell. Sub for Krezuer shortly after half time.

None of the fit midfielders sitting outside the 22 I've named deserve a gig this week; I'd rather back the run of Bower or Laidler in defence, and release Gibbs into midfield.

I don't mind this. First one I've read for a while that shows a bit of faith in some of the newbies. Okay so we got done - how about giving those blokes a chance to make amends?

Kruezer as a sub is interesting. Last year I was jumping up and down about him needing a rest about two weeks before he did his knee, , so I'm sympathetic to the general idea. Not sure sub is the way of achieving this though.

Well given you feel the need to keep us up to date with your betting I thought I could ask whether $30 constituted loading up, as you mentioned elsewhere, or not. Looks like it does.

If I bet against Carlton and won I'd wear a paper bag over my head to collect my money and not tell a soul.

Seriously don't understand the pride and bragging about it.

Personally, I believe they will bring back the regulars.

Therefore:

Waite comes in for Austin (Hendo is saved by the fact that he did quite well on Kennedy when moved to defence - therefore he might be useful to put on Vickery when resting forward or even on riewoldt as the second option)
Laidler comes in for Jamo
Robinson comes in for Okeefe
Curnow comes in for armfield
Duigan comes in for Touhy, Houla or Hendo - depdning on where MC wants support.

Obv the above depends on the fitness of those returning.

Not saying any of the above did anything wrong to get dropped either.

I don't feel the need to keep anybody updated................. however, quite a few people on here think otherwise.

Just ask Buzzaaah!

Hmm...have been a tad despondent with so many injuries..a little concerned as Jammo and Dyegun will miss..maybe Laidler too..and Bower not 100%.There are a few worries..but then, I saw Hawks have a lot of injuries too, and they play the Cats.
If Cats win..and we win..
then all happiness and calm will be restored.
3rd...oh lovely safe feeling 3rd.
yep..cheered up after that.

I really don't think we can bring in 2 players who've had a month or so off (Laidler & Waite). It just seems like too many.

Austin - Thornton - Russell
Yarran - Henderson - Touhy
Simpson - Robinson - Scotland
Houlihan - Waite - Garlett
Betts - Walker - Kreuzer

Warnock - Gibbs - Murphy

Judd - Carrazzo - O'Keefe
sub: Armfield/Ellard/McLean

Out: Ellard, Jamison
In: Waite, McLean

Judd needed someone to make space for him on the weekend and Robbo will have to do that.
Armfield as sub for his pace or Ellard for his general work as a small or McLean to open it up for Judd. The sub is a tough one.
Thornton, Henderson and Austin can rotate forward as match-ups dictate.
I don't especially want to drop Ellard, but I want to see O'Keefe get a full game.

Tough at the selection table this week!!

Laidler in if he is fit. Waite in, Duigan in, Curnow in, Robinson in. You'd even suggest O'hAilpin should be considered.

Contrary to other's opinions, I believe Ellard stays. He had four more tackles than anyone else in the team. Also don't forget he was playing a week after he was concussed. It's often said your next game after being concussed is never that great. I'd give him another go this week.

I don't know what happened to Henderson but he was great against Brisbane then gave two spud like performances in a row. He does not deserve his spot.

People are suggesting Houlihan goes. I suggest he stays. He had a forward tagging job on Shannon Hurn and it was not the reason we lost the game. Hurn had ten disposals, Houlihan had 19 plus 6 tackles (second behind Ellard).

IMHO, If the match committee had balls they'd drop Carrazzo. I fail to see how we can win finals with him in the team. For every good game, he plays 2 average and 1 stinker.

My selection on a whim. 6 changes back into the team:

IN - Waite, Duigan, Curnow, Robinson, Bower (unless Laidler is available), Setanta (if available).
OUT - Austin, OKeefe, Jamo, Carrazzo, Armfield, Henderson

That would make the team read:

B - o'hAilpin, Thornton, Duigan
HB - Yarran, Gibbs, Russell
C - Scotland, Robinson, Simpson
HF - Houlihan, Waite, Garlett
F - Betts, Walker, Kreuzer
Foll: Warnock, Judd, Murphy
Int - Ellard, Touhy, Curnow
Sub: Laidler/Bower

Feel free to tear my theories to shreds :P

Okeefe, Tuohy, Austin and no Jamo. Of course we lost to WC who have very good talls. Change this to Duigen, Laidler, Bower and Jamo and it's a completely different ball game.

On top of all that our midfield had a bad day. It can happen.

With Jamo out, our best tall defender at the moment is Thornton hands down and should play on Reiwoldt. Round one is a long time ago and Thornton has regained a lot of confidence as the year has gone on. Please don't forget that it was not too long ago that he was a very reliable defender. Henderson should be moved back to play on Vickery and Austin or Bower (who ever they choose) for the 3rd tall. I thought Henderson competed well in the air against JK. The inclusion of Waite means we have him as backup as he and Henderson/Austin can play both ends.

I think it would be a huge mistake to drop Ellard as some have suggested. He is a much better option than McLean who still should be in the side for Curnow. Russell should move back deep into defence for some experience, Houlihan needs to forward tag Newman and Warnock needs to take his finger out of his a$s.

As mentioned before Duigen and Curnow probably unlikely.

For mine:

OUT: Jamo, Okeefe, Touhy :yikes:
IN: Waite, McLean, Robinson

I don't think Bower is ready to play after no game last week so Austin keeps his spot. Unlucky for Tuohy and Okeefe but can we get serious? You cannot afford to play so many inexperienced young talent in a backline and expect to beat quality sides. Armfield lucky to keep his spot but I wouldn't mind him keeping Nahas honest.

No way would I drop Tuohy. Looked pretty solid I thought and looks to have picked up the change of pace.
