Totally agree with you Rexy

If you look at in abstract fashion it's not so ridiculous. If Ellard himself was not a liability on the day then the prospect of relying too heavily on rookie list players with weaknesses just might be. It's symbolic, if we are to bring in more talent from somewhere then, theoretically, someone must be pushed aside. There is a point when the idea of having players simply 'doing their bit' becomes effectively redundant. I don't know if everyone at Carlton acknowledges that. Games are there to be won, not preserved.

Presti's job is just to preserve. Mick loves him. You need all types. Our problem is that we make DUMB DUMB decisions

Sydney had about the same amount of misses and posters as we did.

The first 8minutes of the game were we 4 goals down was the let down, too many big matches this year blown out of the game from the start.
We played catch up footy in the first qrt, 2nd qrt and 3rd we managed to overun Sydney but spent too many petrol tickets doing so.

Players keep trying and trying, all you can ask, they need to improve if they want to go further into September because currently we are just a 7th/8th team.

Thank christ! A voice of reason amongst a lot of bulltish, lets deal with it and look forward to 11, they will be better for it

Shot ourselves in the foot on a couple of key occasions, but my lord were we hosed on a couple of calls...

Joseph gets whacked in the head, nothing, play on Swans goal.

Mumford allowed to drop the ball on the wing, nothing, play on...

Walker blatantly held in the first and last quarters in the forward 50. Nothing, play on.

Judd spear tackled by Jack, Murphy remonstrates, Swans free.

And more...

flower hell.

Judd, however, was absolutely immense. His best game for the club, I think.

Ummm no according to the paper I read today. Father is Gary Jack and recruiters and then skill coaches saw more when they rookied him.
Apology accepted.

Surprised people are rating Waite's game, I though he was awful. Missed easy shots, didn't use his athleticsim enough to get to marking contests, spent way too much time whinging to the umpires, and gave away a ridiculous undsciplined free way off the ball in the first which resulted in a Swans goal when we had possession.
Thought Sauce was fantastic esp after half time. Was Warnock injured, had little second half game time after a couple of big grabs up forward.

Hendo presented well but has hands like cement at the moment. Eddie Betts has had a very ordinary second half of the year, wonder if he is carrying an injury?

JR terrific game. Murph really good Gibbs good on Goodes, Judd very good, Hadley has little polish but really did a great job. Too mnay players lack skill. If AJ is getting a game we are not top six material. His kicking is ordinary, despite his niggling he is sometimes not that tough when he needs to watch the ball rather than players around him. Badly fumbled in the second because of that, and doesn't seem to be able to pick the ball up on the run unless it bounces into his hands. Bower I thought improved as the game went on.
Love Robbo's desperation, but he has very low skill level. It's hard to imagine we really rated him a first round pick in 2008 when guys like Hanneberry lasted till pick 30. Maybe Robbo should be developed as a half back where he can run straight.
Thought Carrazzo was very good in the second half, wish he ran forward instead of in semi circles though.

All in all a very strong effort but ultimately disappointing. Much improved on most of the games in the second half of the year. Still huge opportunity wasted. Hard to believe it is going to be at least ten years between finals in Melbourne for the Blues. CLealry we have just finsihed the worst decade in our history.

What I took away from the match:

Judd is an absolute champion. (Yes, already confirmed but he just astounds me with his skill). He carried us back into the game.

Carrazzo stepped up.

Gibbs did what he could on Goodes and contained him for half the match.

Russell was a star. Showed his form from the early part of the season.

Murphy has had 3 outstanding weeks and will dominate next year.

Henderson and Waite will be gagging for the preseason training. Learn more about the forward structure and they will be gold.

The biggest disappointment was Bower. He played too far off his man and I usually defend him but early on in the game his lack of awareness gave them the momentum.

wiat...... so you want kreuzer, Lucas, Yarran and Mclean delisted or traded??
If thats the case you are a f&%@! wake up to yourself, the world hasn't ended, what has happened is we've unearthed some good kids, shown some depth, gone forward from fev+stevens and by golly if we trade sauce over hammer the shit will hit the fan.
No chance is hammer a better option for the future, he may be athletic but that means jack, sauce s a brilliant tap ruckman, can go forward, and has an excellent footy brain! NO MORE WORK IN PROGRESS TYPES.

I've never been so proud in a loss.
To be beaten by the Swans like that in a final......well i couldn't think of anyone else i'd rather lose to. They are a pure, professional, tough team. No snipers in that lot.
We are one key position defender short of a top 4 side. Would free up Gibbs into the midfield.
Biggest negative for me has been the form of Eddie lately....think he has the Leon Davis big game disease.

We need a big mother down back.
I still think its worth trying Hampson or even kreuzer
Jacobs showed today he is a class ruckman
Warnock has come on

What I hope happens this year is some of our rookies are promoted.
Not just Gartlettand Ellard

White
Dare
Tuohy
Cachia
and that they go ahead of some names

The issue of our coaching is an issue. Dont ban this bit mods

To play Gibbs on Goodes was oh so flower dumb
And it didnt work
Goodes is a hard match up Obviously
But why play Gibbs on him again.
I reckon Russell could have been given the task
Waite even
Walker

And it didnt work anyway.

Hope these rookies are promoted
as mentioned above

Get rid of
Johnson
Hadley(I know he played well today but he aint the future. He is too slow)
Fisher
Browne
Anderson
Thornton
Houlihan
Wiggins
Tiller
Thats 10 guys and give more youngsters the chance.
Ratten has done this to some extent . keep it going

I aint disappointed we lost
They had a crack
We are simply not goode enough yet

Next year is a huge watershed year for the club

This is really starting to sh it me.

Again with the umpires?

I reckon we got a poor run in the first quarter and an armchair ride in the last 3. Of course there were decisions which could have gone our way and didn't, but if we barracked for South I bet we could find plenty to complain about as well. Apparently frees finished 20-15 our way. If you were umpiring it would be something like 80-2.

Umpiring didn't cost us the game today.

Reasons we lost were atrocious defending in 1st half (Russell excepted) and panicky/wasteful goalkicking when we had the ascendency.

Devastated - as all of us probably are. The game had it all - lots of promise but then lots of failures. However, there is enough promise to be excited about next year, but clearly, there is a lot of hard work ahead before the promise is realised. Jeez I hope it happens!

Agreed.
Can't blame today on the umpires.

We played stupid, absent minded, undisciplined rookie footy in the first half, and it cost us.

He means that they weren't playing today, and thus we have a bright future. He doesn't want them out of the team.

He was saying that we had some good players out of today's team, he wasn't saying they should be delisted or traded.

Tough loss to take today. I thought we were immense the way we got back into the game, but we lost this one not just early in the last quarter, but also late in the third quarter where we missed some shots and didn't capitalise on our chances (Juddy, why kick a checkside when a drop punt would've been a certain goal?). It really hurts this one. Though it hurts a fraction less than last year. Let's hope we can earn a home final next year and not have to worry about these interstate trips.

I feel for Lachie, got into great positions today and did take some good grabs, but could have been so much more. I hope people aren't too hard on him, he's only 20 and is showing that he could be a really good player for us. I also felt for Armfield, but admire his courage to take the game on in those last 3 minutes when anyone else would've crawled into a hole. Well done to him. And well done to the rest of the team on a courageous effort. But we must learn from this.

I got heavily...lets say srutinised....when I agreed with Dr Sherrin's opinion of the out of form Betts.
Sometimes the obvious is so obvious.
He peaked then he floundered.
We kept him in the team whilst he was floundering.
Someone tell him to @#$%&! off the gansta shit and get serious about the Blues next flag; that's what he's on the list for.
He's been shit for a couple of months FFS.

absolutely shattered but at the same time proud to be a blues supporter! we gave it our all against an older, stronger side and even though we didnt win i think we played as good if not better than them especially in the second half.

Judd had a quiet first half but his second half was fantastic!

Carrots really stepped up and played like a leader today. we really, missed him last week against the dockers.

And Murphy played great! one of the only players in the team that plays on more than he stops.

Overall a good season from a young, upcoming team

  I think he was saying that those boys were out of the side today, not that he wants them out.

Still too numb to think about the game today though. Maybe I'll be right by November. Dunno.
