Hey Moshe......I think you're assertion that Bomber Thompson....Worsfold...Roos and Choco Williams were in the same playing class as Barassi....Lethal....Blight...Coleman...Jezza....Nicholls and Walls....is.....well......
Yeah....I know....different opinions.
Relax, Warbs. I have asserted no such thing. Definitely not in the same playing class. In fact you're asserting the same thing I've asserted on a number of occasions. It's just that you said "how many great players.....", and I reckon the ones I said WERE great players who have recently been good coaches. So while not AS great as those on your list, there's no denying that they were great players.
I think that the principle that we're both espousing here is really this: Being a great player is completely unconnected from being a great coach.
There have been great players who were great coaches (the ones we said)
There have been great players who've been bad coaches (Tim Watson, Royce Hart)
There have been ordinary players who've been great coaches (Tom Hafey, Pagan - spit, and I'll get killed for this one, but Clarkson)
There have been ordinary players who've been bad coaches (Knights possibly, Drum)
No causal relationship between the two. Not unusual, mind you. The same is true with actors / directors, computer programmers / project managers, etc.
