I'm a bit of a Setanta apologist but really, get some perspective guys. He was quite good in the first, did little in the second then was reasonable for the rest of the game (apart from one really bad kick) in conditions that didn't suit a 200cm player. He actually got pretty involved in the last. It is hard to judge his game depending on his instructions. It seemed to me that they wanted him very deep and Waite to be the target. Several times he was being picked up by both Warnock and Rivers which left Bartram on Waite. Predictably Waite was able to outmark Bartram one on one.

I really like Hendo and think he will make a player but the GC are basically a schoolboy side, so I am not sure that form against them means an automatic inclusion. That said obviously Setanta will need to improve his form but over the year he has been solid in a very difficult position. And while TBirds form was much better this week, he got one of his goals drifting forward without and opponent and the other from a tiggy touchwood free. That's good but if he plays permanent forward he'll find it a tad tougher than playing as a loose man drifting forward.

It all comes down to coaches instructions. If Setanta follows instructions he will hold his place. Prsonally I'd like to see him get more involved and have more freedom to roam. Sydney would prefer a team full of Brock McLeans with Livo at CHF and hardworking Adam Harlett at FF. I think neither is Irish which is in their favour with SB. He will have an apoplexy if Tuohy ever gets a game ahead of any player we have delisted over the last ten years.

Good post gerry, some accurate observations.

One thing Setanta demands and that is an opponent, which frees up Waitey or Hendo or whichever other tall we have up forward.

Setanta serves multiple purposes, but yes he must keep doing his role because others are banging down the door.

..Setanta's sheer size and speed means he will always need to be manned up.. ..he's also very good in contested situations.. ..the days of one of our fwds being double or triple teamed is over now i reckon..

See the whole reason I am such a setanta fan is because he can still serve a purpose (and an important one at that) even when he doesn't kick a goal. And for as much as I loved fevola......usually when he didn't get on the scoreboard the team suffered fir it.

Setanta provides a target up forward that can keep it in our 50 giving betts and co opportunity!

Wasn't his best game on Saturday, but he still played a valuable role, and that's why inlove him!

You know it might be just me but I have never seen Setanta chase down or tackle Anyone
I have seen Hendo Waite Garlett Eddie Yarren Hoops and even Fev do it plenty of times I cNnot ever recall santy chasing someone down and winning a holding the ball
so this so called forward pressure must be perceved pressure as I hAve never seen it

I could be wrong

SB, it`s his 2nd and 3rd efforts at winning the ball back when he doesn`t have it and ability to cause a contest where his value is.
Anywho i can`t remember Jonathan Brown, Jarryd Roughhead, Travis Cloke, Cameron Mooney/ JPod chasing down and winning to many holding the balls either.

..yep.. ..he gets his share of tackles.. ..usually after a marking contest of F50 stoppage.. ..does get the odd chase down but often not dragging them down, more a bumping tackle that knocks them down..

His ability to make 2nd and 3rd efforts are fantastic. He rarely loses his feet in a marking contest, whilst his opponents go crashing down.

From the sounds of that article I get the feeling the trade of ruckman is on the agenda

Get the feeling that Jacobs may be getting game time to ramp up his trade value.
Honestly though Jacobs has shown a lot more the Warnock so far.
I hope we can keep him, although I'd rather keep Hammer if it came down to one or the other.
Hammer should be off the table because no one will offer enough for him.

why on earth would you drop Betts he had a bad game and still had 19 possessions 11 contested 4 tackles and kicked 2 goals - posters on this site would be awarding the brownlow to Ohalpin if he produced a game like that

Fisher and Grigg will be pressing for selection pretty soon as well

From the sounds of the article Icke is fixing up the mess that Swann and Sticks have created by speculating on the future of Hampson during the week. The kid is still at the club and too have the two most senior admin people at the club speculate on his future is quite dissapointing from my point of view.

We have 4 good ruckman and they are all required and that is all that needs to be said in public at this time of the year.

I heard Swanny...had the feeling he was talking of Warnock..because he was saying how much they value Hampson...and just assumed that Sammy would stay..because he is developing so well.

I guess we all hear through our own filters.

Can't see Fisher adapting to our new style of play.

Trust me If he hadn't got injured against the Swans he was going to be a big part of our new forward structure this year and if he shows any signs of returning to form he will be in
