It just atuns me that there are still people that believe Fev could have operares in the new forwardline.
I do not like to bag anyone but put you guys next to Fev and he comes across as Einstein talking to a couple of potatoes.
Your arguement is spuds.
We are all avid carlton watchers .... Fev was a one man show at Carlton .... was never going to change.
Be happy it all worked out rather than posting illogical arguements.
Fev is one of the best forwards in the last 10 years.
If you had this years gameplan in it with Fev in the goal square rather then Carlos, we would be even better, as he would of commanded a 2-3 man double team and that would of left other players like yazzman, garlett and betts runs loose even more.
If Fev wasn't disciplined with the new gameplan, he should goto the bullants till he isn't a one man show. Fev isn't a one man show in Brisbane is he? His Score assists are up!!.
If you want to actually compare this year to last year though. Yazzman (played a few games) wasnt up to AFL level, Garlett (played a few games) was Inconsistent, Betts overweight, Hampson/Cloke were playing tall Forwards, Waite injured most year/playing backline, Houlihan playing mostly backline/not as fit
This year Yazzman and Garlett have went up a few gears and now are at AFL level, Betts is the fittest he has ever been due boat cruise, waite is playing forward, houlihan is playing forwardline, we got no cloke/hammer. Our midfield is killing it this year aswell with Judd back, so it means better delivery in to forwardline.
The gameplan we are using this year would not be possible last year as Yarran/Garlett weren't up to AFL level and Betts fitness is the best of his career. So what is the point of this thread? Take Fevola out of last years team and we would of relied on Cloke/Hammer/Setanta to do it all, as Yarran/Garlett/Betts aren't at the same level as they are this year.
Your argument is actually Spuds and one eyed. Take the emotion out of it and have a good think about what your saying, before you call other people spuds.
I honestly don't care if Fev got traded or not, but to start saying we are better without a superstar is pretty stupid. He is disciplined in Brisbane to give off handpasses n kicks to players running past for easier goals when hes only 25m out, so l dont think Fev was the problem at all, but more the coaching staff not disciplining him and the other players with the gameplan.
Your agument falls apart with your second sentence Goltz.
"If you had this years gameplan in it with Fev in the goal square..."
Fevola has shown over 12 years of petulant, self-absorbed ego-centric driven bevhaviour that there is no way that we ever could or would have Fevola in the goal square with this years game plan.
Pagan and Ratten both tried on several occasions to try and get Fevola to accept a 'lesser role for the benefit of the team' but the ego-maniac would have none of it. Thus we got the sulks, the sooks, the refusal to chase hard, the refusal to share the ball and give it off to a player in a better position, and as club we suffered for it because other players were unable to 'develop' in a role whilst that selfish buffoon was situated in the square.
You can blame the coaching staff and the club admin for not disciplining him....but have you forgotten how many times he was dragged and was on the phone to Pagan in the dark years, the boots being taken off in the sulks, being sent down to full-back on Gherig as punishment... geez the querelous episodes that we saw in the number 25 continue to mount up and we still have people who continue to overlook the problem we had at full forward.
Seriously, when does Fevola have to stand up and take resonsibilities for his own actions both on and off the field. His problems have always been viewed as "someone else's fault". Why did they kick the ball to him so much?; why did they get in his way?; why didn't they leave him one out all the time?"; "why did the opposition double team him all the time?".
Fair dinkum - why did they kick the ball to him so much? Because he was so self-absorbed that he cracked the sulks and abused those who didn't kick it to him on repeated occasions.
Why did they get in his way? - Because they were following coaches orders in playing the team game and developing their own abilities.
Why did the opposition double team him all the time? - Because the opposition knew that because of Fevola's personality, Carlton was never going to try and develop a different game plan because it had to stoke this prick's ego.
THAT is the only issue here. Why did the club feel it had to stoke his gigantic ego. Blame Pagan for prefering him as the main man and implementing a one-man forward line. Blame Pagan for not being strong enough to get the message through his frickin head, but ultimately, blame Fevola for being a total a*rsehole who didn't play for the club - he played for himself.
Our whole team would never have developed whilst he was here... how can people not see that. The backline and midfielders running forward would have continued to play the 'kick it to Fev' game because his personality demanded that if they didn't, they would cop an earful.
How good is it to see different blokes developing their skills all together as a group - a UNIT. (full of UNITY - look that up!) rather than bit player who were considered extremely lucky if the ball went anywhere near them.
Good @#$%&! riddance.
Playing full forward for Carlton has always been about Brendan Fevola for his own self-importance, and very little to do for the betterment of the club as a whole.
