Can we sack this guy???

He will bring a la la land approach to football...

All hes done since leaving StKilda is talk about how Ben Cousins shjould be allowed to play and that the Saints will in a premiership!!!.... and young kids coming through... blah blah blah....

Gotta hose down the StKilda stupidity in this guy if he is to be anywhere near our kids...

Agree.

Regardless of whether his appointment with us is part-time, he should be firmly told that if the media approach him, his response should be along the lines of "My present involves developing young talent at Carlton, and there are exciting times ahead for the Navy Blues."

He should be docked every time a quote of his about St Kilda appears in the papers.

Once I could live with but this guy is like a broken record!!!
If he’s so infatuated with the goings on over there he should’ve just moved straight into a coaching role from being a player and not bothered with us

I am a bit disappointed with his comments too. I heard him on 3aw during the week and they played the Carlton theme song and asked him to sing along, his response was "I cant do it". If his heart is still with St Kilda then maybe he shouldnt have joined us.

WTF - Is he desperate for a quid that he needs to work?

I'm not happy with his comments either. Stupid thing to do/say. I hope the club has a word with him.

Rob Harvey isn't the person you bring in to co-ordinate your development program, because he has neither the attitude nor the aptitude of a professional coach.

A telling statement he made to the guys on 3AW was, and I quote, "I don't know what a development coach does..."

BUT

He then went on to explain what HE hopes to bring to the job. In his mind, he hopes to draw on his 20 years of playing AFL football, and help Carlton's young players to avoid the classic mistakes young players make (including Harvey himself) and therefore fast-track their development by hopefully fast-forwarding through the learning curve.

So in Harvey's own mind, he's not coming to Carlton to BE our development program. He's coming to Carlton to impart some of his experience to our young players.

He's a piece of the puzzle; one part of a bigger picture.

Yeah, if the club appointed Rob Harvey as our head development coach, I'd be shitting myself. But that's not his job, and I think that given the parameters he's already outlined for what HE thinks he's bring to the role, I reckon he can do a good job.

You think that he won't be able to sit down with a Stephen Browne and give him an insight into how a young guy should approach his personal development as a player? You'd be very pessimistic if you thought that.

And for what it's worth, what do you reckon Whoosha would have said if a couple of radio hosts asked him to sing the Carlton theme song five minutes after he left West Coast to become our assistant?

Refusing to sing club songs on radio when asked is like a tradition for footballers. I've never, ever heard one ever take them up on it.

Geez, it's all getting a bit 'melvey' in this thread. Cheer up guys.

I have only seen him on fox going on about how exciting our young list looks and how he is looking forward to working with our young talent.

I got excited.

I believe the AIS hired Harvey as well, so he must have something going for him as a development coach.

You can't expect Harvey to tip a bucket on his former club when he was obviously asked a direct question about St Kilda's chances next year.

Lets sack Harvey. :garthp:

And then someone will post that we're giving jobs to the boys.

I don't see anything wrong with what RH has said either.

This reminds me of Campo's interview on the Bombers' website when he first joined them. When asked about his most memorable victory, he stated the 99 prelim.

His response was quickly taken off the website and changed.

Yes you can, you just say 'their list is for them to manage, I'm no longer at the club.'

Unprofessional in my humble opinion.

Having already been announced as an employee, even if not officially on the payroll, he is a Carlton person now and he should have said, I'm an employee of the Carlton Football Club and only questions pertaining to such should be asked of me.

Having said that, reverse psychology...sure puts a lot of pressure on St Kilda to perform.

I no longer play for St. Kilda. They no longer owe me anything.

I shall never speak of them again as I now support Carlton, as they pay me.

Cousins is free to do what ever he wants and I will not be quoted in newspapers discussing St. Kilda in the future.

What St. Kilda needs to do to win a flag is no longer important to me as I now support Carlton, who will win a flag before St. Kilda.

I have seen the light.

I will repeat this in front of the mirror every day.

Seriously the guy has just launched a book, do you expect him to be talking about Carlton in that book? What type of questions do you think the media was ask about the book?

I'm sure the club has given him permission to complete these media commitments for his book launch, and who is to say his contract has actually started yet? Have the players returned from training?
