Actually I think the posters on the Maggies and Saints sites do have a point. While Judd is a no-brainer as captain, it is an indictment of the club over the last ten years (if we needed further proof) that there is no Carlton recruited and developed player. Given our parlous leadership, Judd will be a terrific captain in the do as I do mold. I suspect he would prefer not to be captain, but he is clearly the man

Stevo is unlucky, in retrospect he should have been made captain last year, still let's hope Judd leads us to the promised land. And let's hope our next choice of captain (in 10 years) will be difficult because of the vast number of candidates.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Shouldn't Harrison and Moulton be on here to explain this? I mean err, ummm they've chosen the guy who has won a Brownlow, is recognised as the best player of the last five years, and been a Premiership Captain at another Club.

IT ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH... THIS HAS TO STOP

Apparently we're the only team to have recruited players from other teams...and made one captain too

Judd has undertaken to hand over the job to Stevens after two seasons. Brett Ratten wrote it down on a piece of paper and put it in his wallet.

Oh, I'm SURE Judd wouldn't be captaining Collingwood or Richmond if he went there, considering the competition for the role ;)

Richmond recruited Kane Johnson & Collingwood Nathan Buckley and made them captain but they aren't Carlton so it's all wrong by CFC. :P

Go Juddy ... stick it up them. 8)

I heard the interview too, and agree Wolfe he spoke really well and is starting to loosen up so to speak.

He made a great comment when asked what he thought about being at CFC. He said that at West Coast it was a business turning into a football club whereas Carlton is a football club moving to a business or words to that effect.

He was sincere when he said it was an honour to lead this great club.

Carlton appointed Ern Henfry as Captain for its 1947 season after only playing 2 games for Carlton on a special war permit in 1944 whilst on leave from the army - his story is well summarized in the Blueseum. - link below.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=Ern+Henfry

The circumstances are so similar to Judd's appointment its almost eerie.

Judd being the best person for the job is hardly an indictment on our list as Judd would be the best player on any of the current lists of the 16 AFL clubs - so picking him to be our captain is not so much a "no-brainer" as a "yes stupider".

Congrats to Judd.
The decision was an absolute no-brainer.
He is a Brownlow Medallist, Norm Smith Medallist and Premiership Captain.
It is hard on Nick Stevens, but life is not always "easy" or "fair."
Judd was the outstanding candidate and deserves the appointment.

If Stevens returns to his 2007 form and gives 110% to both Carlton and his new Captain, then he will show that he is a quality leader regardless of not being the official captain.

Either one would've been a good appointment. I think the intrinsic value of captain is exaggerated. I want 22 possessed men taking the field in navy blue jumpers ready to fight week in, week out.

This requires self motivation and individual leadership. The appointment has been made. Now lets get on with it!

I am positively completely wrapped with this decision. For once I am not embarrased by our Captain. Sorry but ie Whitnall and Kouta(sorry love you but !!)

I cannot believe that he is going to play for Carlton let alone be our captain. It is still like a dream really. My favourite ex non Carlton player as our Captain. Unbelievable.
