Settlements and legalities take time....

And i would never lump Mathieson in the Valmorbida/Smorgon/Diggins/Rose/Wilson cataguory of board member..

Adrian Anderson on 882 in Perth this evening seemed to indicate that the AFL would discourage Carlton playing a home game in Perth - he stated that the AFl encouraged selling home games into developing AFL markets (ie Tasmania, QLD) but did not support the move to sell home games into regions where there is an AFL game every week (SA/WA)

Assuming we were able to play a home game in Perth - I'd also like to see Carlton use it as a marketing opportunity to gain more WA members - not just a take the 400k and run opportunity. If there are currently 2000 WA members, I'd estimate that there must be at least another 3000 who attend WA games who are not members. I'd like to think that at least 1000 of those could be encouraged to become members.

Also Carlton merchandise is scarce in WA - there may be an opportunity to set up a store at the ground to 'move some units'.

The functions we have over here before a game are great - but sometimes the guest speakers leave a little to be desired (Steven O'rielly post black friday for example - there was an element of tension in the room as he spoke !!). Maybe we could have a proper pre-match function with an ex-WA Carlton great speaking - Hunter, Buzz, FItzpatrick - Earl ?

Almost all WC games are sell outs now anyway - there is a large body of WC supporters who may see this as the only opportunity in the season to go and see a game - a strong attendence is almost gauranteed.

The situation is not ideal. But I'd like to think the board is thinking beyond the $$$ they'd immediately get - and are thinking of ways that they can maximise the long term benefit of an unfortunate situation.

F... the AFL we should capitalise on the support base we have over there. I think the amount of support we have over in Perth is great. It's amazing watching the game on game on tv and hearing the Carlton supporters make some noise when we score. I have no problem giving something back to the WA Carlton supporters who have remained loyal to the blues.

I like this idea! Bring out the ex-WA Carlton champions and showcase Carltons rich history with WA players!

If the AFL don't want us playing home games in Perth then we won't be doing that. As we've found out before, they'll fixture us wherever it suits their agenda. The AFL own us ATM.

Can imagine the backlash if O'Rielly stepped out in the Sticks room at the Dome.

As others have stated, selling games is the short term fix.

I know it sounds simplistic, but instead of selling games, we need to win them.

This brings in memberships and bigger crowds, which all equal more dollars.

What do we need to do that?

Maybe getting a new coach could be a start.

I also think it's inevitable we will be finishing right down the ladder again this year. That can't be changed, but I don't think the club can survive another year of this shit.

The rise to the top must start in 2007. Five years in the cellar is more than enough.

The AFL seems to give us two games in perth every year anyway. On Carltons request it hasnt stoped them in the past

...because 2 Carlton 'away' games in Perth suits the AFLs agenda.

Anderson has hinted that they won't support Carlton 'home' games in Perth so it probably won't happen.

3) Does my membership now only get me to 10 games in Melbourne (and 1 in Perth if I travel)...No. unless the club are asleep at the wheel, they will have an "away" game in Melbourne that you will be entitled for entry, probably Bulldogs , KAngas (traditionally low drawing crowds)

Does the club need to pay the Bulldogs or Kangas for every member who enters on that away game though, to compensate them for lost gate receipts?

i.e 10,000 members at $20 = $200,000

I thought that was the arrangement for our game against Hawthorn and St Kilda which were those clubs designated 'away' game.

TBB...To the highest (or lowest) bidder....clubs would give a testicle to have the Blues designate a game as an "Member - away" game and won't be charging Carlton $20 a head...it will be anything to get more through the door and bums on seats ...That's why you arrange that differently each year....The contracts are complicated..ground, catering, numbers etc. Some teams will know they will do a loss on certain games, so they will try and get anything extra for those.
actually Hawks won't be goiving any testicles away as Mitchell has just lost his

So the Bulldogs will be happy to admit 10,000 of our members who would otherwise have had to pay to get in?

No TBB, BUT they will be happy to get an extra 10,000 who weren't going to be there. Catering contracts depend on how many you can attract, sponsors (ground and otherwise) can depend on how many you can get through the door...Door receipts are pretty much a thing of the past

Anderson has probably just worked out what I've been talking about...we won't be playing an extra game...just the usual 2 in Perth (and getting paid for it)

Ultimately you play to win games.. but before you can be a winner you have to be competent.

Were not...

People want to see the club making the right, bold decisions instead of being pissweak!!!

Telling the coach to hit the road would be pretty bold, would it not?

Pretty stupid as well in our financial position. What would be smarter would be to tell Denis that we would not get in his way if a club like Freemantle approached him about taking over there job from 2007. We are more than happy to release you from your contract and we are more than happy if you want to take Tony Elshaugh and whoever else with you.

And if we hang onto him and remain down the arse end of the ladder how much does the lost revenue impact on our financial position?

More importantlly is what happens if he continues to burn kids...

I heard he was nagative about one of the kids on the weekend... used to be negative about simmo making it too.

Bryan to play...

At long last....

Woof great idea. This would be a nice clean break and everyone would be happy. What do we need to bring it all together? Freo to lose more games, more critical articles of Connolly?

Was the kid that he was negative about a certain person with initials AW...

Why can't he give AW a role to build his confidence. Not the hardest job on the ground. I would have put bannister or someone else on Ablett.

I know it will cost us roughly 1 million to get rid of him. You tell me what it will cost us if we keep him?

Malouf just on FoxFooty

Said it would have to very very lucrative for Carlton to move a home game interstate and it would definately be on a short-term basis & a final decision is a long way off.
