Should we have secured Malthouse from 2013 or taken the punt on Roos' availability from 2014?

Interesting conundrum...

We know now that Roos wants to coach from 2014, so should we have held fire, let Ratts coach his last year and then got Roos (if he was willing) rather then pulling the trigger early and getting Malthouse?

Yes, it's all hindsight, but what would you have preferred?

Nah. One more year of Ratts might just have been the proverbial straw that broke Liam's back.

Happy as we are now.

yeah nah.
I have coach envy for sure.
I loved the way rooTsy spoke at the presser today.
he'll have all the good 'uns like Lingy, maybe Vossy if he doesn't try for WC, and lots more.
the perfect teacher, with a great shot of being the successor. I reckon now we'll get the leftovers from Melb for our coaching applicants.
also, heard a rumour that we are getting sylvia???
good grief.
I think it's the positive energy he brings that I'm attracted to.
having said that, I do expect a great improvement from us next year under MM.

I get the feeling that only big $$$ made Roos change his mind to coach again... at his age, 2 year deal with an option for a third? yeah dunno. Don't really rate him tbh, good coach but not the messiah people make him out to be. People like to bag Mick's game plan but they also forget the ugly style the Swans played under him.

Malthouse on the other hand was moved on due to Eddie's fear of losing his lovechild to another club. He has never lost the love for coaching and has something to prove. I genuinely believe that we're better off with the decision we made last year.

We should have got a process first and then a coach.

I like Ken Hinckley.

This one.

Malthouse is going ok. He's a good coach and handles the media superbly.

Maybe there was a better option, get in on a good untried coach.

We won't know coz we have Malthouse now, for better or worse.

If this club spent $2.0m on a coach I would never buy a membership again.

Dont understand the 2 years. If you cant commit for 3, then its a waste of time. I feel MM is more committed.

It's two with an option. Depends if they deem the incumbent is ready to take the reigns. Not sure why all the hate. Melbourne have been a basketcase. Should be applauded for doing something that makes long-term sense. Particularly if that individual is an Adam Simpson. 3 years under Clarkson. 2 years alongside Roos. Not bad.

No hate Doc,but surely that is up to the MFC and not Roos.......................if he wants to decide a coach he should go on an selection panel.Very presumptious of Roos.Very conceited bloke.Letting Roos come in and take over shows you why they have been so shit. They obviously dont have a mind of there own.A rael footy club would tell him to coach, not wet nurse a brittle and fragile administration.Thats got disaster written all over it.Sorta like we got Swann in as CEO and let him run the footy department.Front of house and back of house should never mix.Never works, and it never will.

I'd suggest very few coaches aren't a little bit conceited. Not a bad trait to have in their profession. This arrangement has been mooted for some time...hasn't just been invented in the last month.

Is the AFL paying for it ???????
Jeezus he is rolling in it.

Based on the harsh marking MM is getting here on TC, Roos better take them to a prelim at least next year!!!!!

Do they think he is gonna get the best out of Sylvia and Watts?
Good luck

I would rather a Malthouse committed to the cause than a Roo's with one eye on the money and the other on the door.

Roo's still refers to Sydney as "we" even though he has been a comentator for several years. If he can't commit to being a comentator, then good luck Melbourne with him commiting to coach.

Hearing Roos talk about two way midfielders tells me it wouldn't have worked out anyway.

We'd have had a player revolt after a year.
