Quote:
CARLTON is set to announce contract extensions for Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer, with negotiations to extend the contract of important small defender Chris Yarran about to start.

The contracts of the star trio expire at the end of this season and the Blues have made their retention a priority.

With Gibbs and Kreuzer sure bets to stay, it is understood that Greater Western Sydney has been circling Yarran's management about his availability.

Sounds good.

No way will Yarran go to GWS.

Good to hear, hope an announcement is made soon. Yarran is a huge priority, simply cannot lose him.
Good to hear Scotland wants to play on.

Why would GWS be after Yarran? He's cream on a cake - not the cake itself. Totally goes against what they need.

GWS should worry about who they will lose, not who they can try and get.

Yazz wont be going anywhere, 1) because his two best buddies Jeffy and Eddie are here, and 2) he knows we re on the cusp of something special

Football is a business these days, and being paid to play makes Yazz etc employees. There is no way you can ever say "X player simply wont change teams" because if they want to be paid more (and who doesn't?) then they may very well go.

Club loyality is a romantic thing but not actually a factor much these days. I personally wouldn't hold it against any player who left for more cash - they are looking after their own future while still playing the game they love. Makes perfect sense.

Club loyalty not much of a factor these days? Tell me, how many superstars have actually left their club when they could be getting double the money at gc or Gws? From the top 20-30 players in the league, Ablett is the only one. You think murphy wouldn't be getting well over a mil if he went to Gws?

It's not just loyalty to your club, but staying in a familiar place where you are settled and happy, playing with your mates that many have played with since they were 18, staying close to family etc.

Spot on jake.

Money is rarely an issue and if you're in a winning environment, its even less so.

Geelong managed to keep its list together over 5 years of winning. Mumford is really the one they lost due to money.

Mumford was guaranteed a game and given a 4 year deal.
Money would be a small factor in his decision to leave.

Yes, apart from him

Mumford was going to get game time at Geelong, but double the money. In that case you really dont have much choice.

Essendon* have had a few brave wins in spite of losing ex-Cat Brent Prismall to injury.

You are on the money here. There are a few talented youngsters not happy that they are not getting a run.

Geez I hope our recruiters are talking to their managers and as of the end of the season I hope we pick them off one at a time, as needed to Visy Park....and from GC too.

Maybe that's why we only took a coupla picks from last years draft.

I'm sure plenty of our peripheral players 23-30 are playing for their careers this year, knowing this.
