Did they give an estimate on the crowd at the family day?

Hopefully we sold a stack of memberships as well

I gave up on Family Day 3 years ago.
Its a great idea. The organisation is terrible.

Would be interested how the success of family day is measured. Attendance, memberships sold, merchandise sold or whether its considered an opportunity to put a smile on jnrs face as they get a photo and autograph from the players.

I've never attended a 'family day' but would prefer to have a Carlton Expo...club could merge some activities with Spirit of Carlton, use the theatre and pre-sell half hour session times, have photo with nominated Premiership cup, partner with sponsors more and get away from the antiquated concept of people lining up all day. There are ways to get creative here and be able to measure days success with real tangibles.

I think there is a place for both, i have missed the last 2 family days but went to the two before that. The kids love these and yes the queues are annoying but its better than having no one turn up. Hopefully the membership drive was good and merchandise stalls did a thriving business.

Great thought, I love the concept of a Carlton expo and there has been talk of developing a museum of such at Carlton. I believe that Sticks isnt too keen on it at this stage due to the costs as it was raised at an AGM about having one similiar to what the Bombers have at Windy Hill. I suppose its something that will only happen if they see it being a cash cow. Something that they could do as a 'one-off' intially and see what interest it generates, and if does well look at doing something like it on a more frequent basis?????

Ran past the Collingwood family day yesterday (if you were there, you'd want to run too) and from what I could see it's just several thousand people all queuing up for things.

You'd hope they'd have someone doing stick on full-sleeve tatts for the kiddies, and a Didak shooting gallery, but it all looked pretty standard stuff to me.

Good for the kids I guess.

I'd be interested to hear what the critics expect from such an event. My lot, (4,6 &9), went and had a great time.

The queues to meet the players were long ... but my eldest got his #30 signed by Waitey so that's forgotten.

Improvements I'd suggest would be :

* More player access - perhaps another tent or two and how about a few, (more?), players wandering around just doing a mobile meet and greet? And please - make them wear something that allows people like me to identify who they are.
* One or two more things for the kids. What they had was really good, but a couple more things would spread the lines a bit more. Even an extra jumping castle would help.

Apart from that, which is really just asking for more of same, I thought it was good.

Oh, and my kids each got one of those "empty" little rubbish bins and they love 'em.

Great idea as usual Doc. A little too creative for the powers that be perhaps? Even if it fails at least it was tried. And before the other "power" clubs. We were the trendsetters once.

I would also add presenter led tours of the facilities, maybe have the coaches and a few star players telling us about the everyday process they follow to become AFL footballers. All we had was a security guard let a small group through to look at gym equipment and walk past some rooms, plenty of assumptions made but no insight?

There really isn't much for toddlers on the day either. A couple of jumping castles dominated by bigger kids (expected), a couple of face painting tables and a handful of animals to pat. I can see benefit for the bigger kids getting to smash the tackle bags and hit the target type activities.

As Doc suggested more can be done to cater for different tastes.
