Did anybody hear Swann on KBs show yesterday?

I only caught a snippet and he was talking about tow young players who they are very impressed with and expect to play seniors this year, both played finals for Bullants last year?

I heard the majority of it, he is often on Friday mornings with KB as he fills in occasionally.
He mentioned Kerr and Casboult, a caller rang up and asked about them. He said as we were playing 2 games with the break inbetween in the NAB cup it is possible that we may field up to 40 players.
KB asked him if he was relieved about Fev not being at Carlton and he said he felt really sad about it and he hoped Fev sorted himself out. He said that Carlton had a 100 page file on Fev and said it was a good sign that he was still in rehab as Carlton had on many occasions sent him to rehab and Fev left after a day or two saying he was okay.
No mention of Murphy that i heard.
He kepted getting teased about Richardson saying that Carlton had the best midfield in the league.
He also said that winning final would be a pass mark as far as the coach is concerned and Ratts was aware of this and had the same thoughts.

I heard that Swann may not have his contract renewed at the end of the season, the Blues will be making a play for Cook from Geelong.

Ive been told a lot of ex-players don't like Swann.............. some major players in fact.

I have no idea what the guy is like but i think he's done a wonderful job for the CFC.

Probably a few ex-coaching staff, ex-admin staff and a few other ex's to boot.

As an outsider, all I see are good things, things that could easily have fallen away after Pratt died.

The reasoning I have been told for Swann's likely departure is that he has gone 'soft' in his role and stopped making hard calls. There was no issue in his early days at Carlton as he was a 'shaker & a mover', but he has gone into a boy's club mentality of late and is just happily drifting along. We will know for sure one way or teh other at the end of the season.

Perhaps when things get on the right track there is less of a need for hard calls? We needed and brought in some experiened ascoaches. No need for change for changes sake

You have made a very valid point, but I am led to believe that an internal review was called for by some of our big money-backers, They are of the opinion that the club has stagnated over the last 18 months its not only Swann being looked at, it includes Ratts, Sticks, Icke etc.

Good to see that people with lots of money have a say in what happens at the club.

Whether we like it or not it would happen at most clubs in most sports - teh review is supposed to see if we have firstly got the bets possible people in place and secondly if tehy are doing the best job possible.

Depending on what happens this year, a lot of key staff will be reviewed you would think.
Ratts is clearly first cab off the rank but I would think Swanny would face scrutiny too

They're all accountable

Im more than happy for those with money to stir things up if all isnt running as it should.

Our communications department is a good example of where to go next if some at the club have started patting each other on the back.

If people are investing money into the club, tehy will want to make sure that they are getting a good bang for their buck. These people are successful buisness people in their own right and want to make sure that teh club is managed as professional as possible. They have a good understanding of running successful businesses and reporting / being accountable to their stakeholders.

They aren't saying who should be selected or trying to develop a game plan of their own, its more a case of saying are we doing the best we possibly can. Have we got the best people available and are they performing to their optimum???

It is a fine line in terms of how much input does money buy?
I am sure what happened at Essendon* last year was pushed along by the money men but from the outside looking in the Bombers were a laughing stock in the way they handled the coaching issue.

Correct - they influenced change where they thought it was necessary, whether taht happens at Carlton is yet to be seen. But like anything, unless you continually review and look towards best practices fro continous improvement you will stagnate and go backwards in whatever you do.

AFL clubs are no ordinary investment. I'm very happy with the new coaching staff and recruiting.
I'm not unhappy with the communication re training sessions although have also been caught out. The club has always said that open training sessions are subject to change at short notice.
