Well he weighs about 100 kilos, and will transition to about 11 m/s on the lead at peak, so according to Newton's Second Law:

I = m x Δv = 100 x 11 = 1100 N.s

Given an impulse length of roughly half a second:

F = I/Δt = 1100 / 0.5 = 2200 N, or like getting 225 kilos added to your person at the point of impact.

Hoping he gets through round 2 unscathed so he can do some david hille impacts in round 3...

Leading club goalkicker would be something of an impact.

Seriously though, he seems good for 2-4 gls/game, but the diff btw good fwds and great fwds is the ability to haul in the big mark and kick the crunch goal when it is needed - he hasn't shown he can do that consistently yet, but of course he is only just arriving as a fwd so maybe in time he will turn out to be a very good fwd

What I like about him though is he gives a contest on the ground, makes him dynamic and I think in the modern game his athelticism and ability to produce at ground level is a bonus.

This is not a prediction or me saying that he will be anything more than a useful AFL forward. But...

Many years ago I saw Setanta kick 7 at Williamstown Oval, with hard, direct leading up the field and straight kicking. I was sitting with 4 or 5 guys and all the discussion was around how he would have to find another job because we had Fev and Fev wasn't going anywhere. Setanta has natural forward tendencies and I think we've been kicking to him really well - good shots over defenders head who try to cover his great pace on the lead. Useful forward. Played all over the place for all of those other reasons.

I was there that day and became an INSTANT fan.

I thought the same thing at the time...... No Way would he take over Fev or Whitnalls spot. But I did think he could make it in the Ruck.

I always had a lot of faith and belief in Setanta and still do. I think he has been poorly managed by the club. Throw him in the ruck, then in defence, then in the ruck, then up forward, then drop him if he makes the slightest mistake, then throw him in defence, then ruck, then forward, then ruck, then drop him again................... etc etc etc!

He looks settled up forward. So PLEASE leave him there! If he can kick 30-40 goals than thats just brilliant i say!

Setanta will kick bags in 2010.

He's still young. He's just taken a long time to mature; prbably due to mismanagement imo.

Imagine what he would have become if we didn't have Fev all these years.
I remember his first game and goal in theat game against the Toggers. We copped a hiding that sorry day, but The Irishman really was the shining star from that day.

When he believes he belongs and gets sick of losing the opportunitiy for goal from spilt marks, hooked set shots and awkward snaps, he might kick 10 before Fev does.

He'll get better too.

love the big Setant. what he lacks in football nous is more than made up for with 100% commitment to the contest, and the team. you wont see any sulking or abuse directed to any team mates from Carlos. so glad to see him be given a chance to develop as a forward.

Come on Dc, leave Henderson to develop at CHF and Irish at FF. As others have said let Setanta settle in the one position finally. If he gets 2 to 3 goals a game we will all be laughing.

Get more confident with his grabs and back himself in after taking said grab and he will become very dangerous.

Well if we kick the ball to him even half as many times as we used to for Fevola and he then marked and had shot on goal for around 50% of those, then he will kick some serious bags.

I cannot remember the full stats for the the amount of times we directed the ball to Fevola for 2009 but it was alot. Give Setanta anything like that kind of service (with backup) and he'll kick plenty.

Personally I think around 45-50 for the season but possibly (and I wouldn't be surprised) in excess of 60 if he really gets some confidence. I think Henderson is also capable of kicking 30-40 goals this season so between the two of them Fevola is well and truly covered. Add on Yarran, Betts, Kruezer and Murphy and we should in fact score more than last year.

Fevola kicked as many goals as he did because he knew where to run and when to run there and could hold on to the ball when it got there more often than not and could kick the ball through the goals around 50% of the time.

O'hAilpin isn't the instinctive lead up full forward Fevola is but is definitely capable of kicking 50+ this year.

Mmm... you have proposed a well thought out argument there... Why wouldn't everyone drop everything they're doing and agree to what you say? Sounds a bit trollish to me... "Dont like him, i would be glad if he leaves..."
