Timing is everything.

Could they've made it through with the current day development and mentoring programs Dick and the club have in place now?

Imagine the possibilities with a Fev/Laurie/Betts forwardline... scary in more ways than one...

I wonder how our best 22 look like if those 2 were still around...?

Yep, biggest waste of talent since Steven Oliver. :!:

No loss...had more than enough chances...couldn't care less what they're doing now.

As for Stephen Oliver - he gave footy a better go than a lot of people realise.

Anyone blessed to live around Bendigo in the days of Oliver at his best were lucky.

Doc, I wasn't being critical of Stephen Oliver, far from it, he was a rare talent. Just wish he could have hung out at PP a bit longer. But he wanted the country life, and I would be the last one to be critical of him for that.

I know Murray  ...a lot of people forget that Stephen was at Carlton as a 17 year old and played in the under-19's team with Ratts, Kouta (and his brother Paul), Michael Sexton and Ange Christou. Laden with talent...incredible to watch - I can't think of a footballer who was similar to him, although at the beginning of the 80's another Carlton footballer tore the under 19's and reserves apart as well and could not break in to the senior team - eventually moved clubs and got a go at Geelong, but never truly achieved the potential he had shown as a teenager - that was Gavin Exell. He and Oliver were similar in my book, both could leap out of nowhere, kick extremely straight and were very good at ground level. Both Bendigo area boys as well.

Will this thread be followed up with the 'Annual Essendon* looking into Angwin' rumour at draft time...or is that dead now that Sheedy is finished as a Coach?

Rumour is Lawrie Angwin is going to be on Dancing with the Stars.
Ben Cousins has removed them from journos memory, (it doesn't take much). The poor ba$tards never even got a mention when the two strikes list came out.
Only a few months before the Annual "Goddard to Carlton" or "Solutions to the Priority pick" threads.

That was in 1993 - he used Jakovich as a step ladder from about 2 paces - magnificent.

If only Parkin had of had the balls to play Oliver and perhaps a young Kouta in that Grand Final - what may have been.

For years after that during the 90's I would read the sports pages and always flick to the headlines referring to "Oliver" thinking that Stephen would be returning to Carlton - only to be disappointed that it was actually referring to Damien Oliver the jockey.

Isn't Karl playing in the same side as Hopper McCormack, Jesse Smith, Matty Lappin out at Wangarrata Magpies. Or is Karl a Wagaratta Rover?

Angwin was obviously a seriously disturbed unit, but I was surprised Norman, who seemed more of a not-too bright larrakin, couldn't get his shit together in 2005. He had top 50 AFL level talent and was probably the only one of our failures in that period who really belonged in AFL company.

Seems a long time ago now, but I remember, when we were clutching at straws, a fan spoke to Karl at a function and was told his height

195.7

weren't we all excited
 :donk:
