2 years for now. If he signs another contract, he will be a Blue for life. Apart from his indiscretions, the other worry is that he may decide to try punting in the US.

3 years is a risk, 2 years is a better option IMO.

3 Years.
He is a god.
He can do whatever he wants in his personal time.
As long as he kicks 60+ goals a season.

If he insists on a 2 year deal then I wouldnt trust him....with Velocity as his management group.....

3 year deal for Fev and I'd like to see him a Blue for life and yes he will fall off the rail everynow and then s but as long as he is on them when we are playing in a GF then fine...

It doesn't matter how long he's signed up for provided there are a performance and a behaviour clause included in his contract.

Fev's on field problems have always been a lack of team success.

Win games and the dummy spits are gone.

Don't be surprised if Collingwood come knocking. Rusling will never play due to injury..Rocca will have to be replaced (and soon) and a Fev, Medhurst, Didak, Thomas and Cloke forward line would be potent. They're after a Power Forward and whilst Fev would ideally like to stay at Carlton for the rest of his career - if the money and the length ain't what he thinks his value is - the Pies will be first in line. Don't forget that Mark Kleimann (former Collingwood operations mgr and runner) heads up the Victorian office of Velocity and would be very keen to a) land his client the big contract and b) get Brendan to the Pies.

Fev's form in 2008 is just raising his market value. I'd love to see him stay - but the only options available in my eyes are 3 years (if we want him to stay and think he can help bring us finals success) or trade (if we don't think he'll be kicking goals in 2-3 years time when we should be in the finals.)

It's a tough call - I don't envy the men who have to make it.

Whatever the term it should be incentive based!

If he plays well and does the team things he should be rewarded, if not his pay is significantly reduced.

Mark Kleimann was a keen Carlton supporter before he went to work for Collingwood.

Agree with you that it's a tough call

The question is: "Does Alex Fevola trust him?"

1 year or two first round draft picks. Either will be fine.

He doesn't have any friends at Carlton unless SOS comes back and that's looking more unlikely each year...plenty of friends at Collingwood - including Eddie who's still smarting over the Swann defection.

Am I the only one that thinks that his so called off field behaviour is really just a media beat up?

I mean seriously are we going to trade or possible lose an elite player for taking a piss outside a bar in the early hours of the morning?

Lets get some perspective here, we have the best full forward in the AFL and we are nervous about signing him in case he misses the toilet when nature calls, time to get real and grow up. Give him the 3 year deal with performance bonuses to keep his focused and move on.

You've missed the point there, Steve. The problem is a series of events that stretch back to 1999. His disrespect for his team mates on and off the field is/was disgusating. His attitude toward the club was not much better.

Yes, he can play very good footy at times, but he isn't the model footballer we'd hope for out of a 27YO. If he's worth 2 1st rounders I say we seriously think about it.

Remember - one more F-up and he's gone for next to nothing. ATM we're $5K up at midnight and have to decide whether to cash in our chips and go home, or play on til dawn and risk losing the lot.

I get the feeling that there are some supporters practically salivating at the thought of Fev "misbehaving" again just so they can say "Told you so!".

Duke I know you position of Fev and although some look through rose coloured glasses, yours are definatly black when it comes to Fev.

I don't see how you could say a series of events would warrent looking over all the good that he has brought to the club, as nearly all were during the off season, in fact I don't remeber one incident that occured during the AFL season or that was against the club itself.

I also disagree with your (presumably self opinioned) assessment of disrespect for his fellow teammates, from all that I have heard from players that I have spoken to, they have nothing but respect for Fev and rate him as one of the best clubman at Carlton during some very dark years.

And when it comes to trading I would have thought that gambling on draft pick would be risking the lots, because I doubt you will put your hand up when 4 years down the track posters are furiously asking why we traded Fev for Livingston and Russel.
