Whether Fev future lies with us or not - and I personally hope it does - he is bumping up his value every week he is playing this year, and the Big V game was no different.

As much as I'd like him to stay, at least we know that should he leave - we would get an absolute truckload for him... IMO he would get more for him that what we gave for Judd. And that is largely due to the fact that Judd chose his club in another state and there was not much leverage for West Coast, whereas I'd like to hope Fev would be just as happy to resign with us if any potential deal fell through and he was going to go to another club for nix.

At least I'd hope so.

I'm also wondering how Fev being managed by Alistair Lynch's mob is going to affect dealing at the end of the season... Fev's contract does end at the end of this season right? Otherwise I've been harping on for nothing.

Either way, if Carlton wants to keep Fev - who bleeds Navy Blue for the club - and Fev sees a premiership in the next 3-5 years, then we would hopefully see him stay with the club.

At what cost though?

I think Fev goes on the veterans list next year, so only 50% of his salary is counted.

If Fev does the right thing by himself, and the club, there's no reason why he won't see his career out with us.

And don't worry about his age. Alistair Lynch was about 32 when he won the first of his 3 flags.

How old do you have to be on the veteran list as I think he is only 27/28.

Your eligible for veterans list at the age of 30 or if you have been at the club or 10 years. Fevola was picked u in the 98 draft so i guess that means he would be able to go on the veterans list.

The club are perhaps leaning towards one year at a time, and Fev is not happy with that.

His performance may dictate a longer contract.

Currently the ball is in the clubs court, but as the year unfolds perhaps some may view it as it is moving back in to his court if he keeps delivering.

There are so many variables in this situation it is not funny:

Fev's output on the field both statistically and body language

Fev's performance off the field

Interest generated by other clubs which either works out well for the club or forces their hand

Fev's genuine desire to play at the Blues

The level of support Fev is given in the forward line

Fev is looking at the NFL, how serious and how realistic time will tell, having said that he is in a big comfort zone where he is, they would watch him 24 / 7 if he punted in the US. That is IF he persued that avenue and IF he was selected.

Fev is a grown man with boys approach to life, he has trained hard, but is naturally gifted, so much has been given to him on a plate, money, fame, a career etc.

The decision to leave his manager was made by someone else, lets just hope he makes his own decisions and it is in everyone's best inerests in the future.

Great effort by him last night, he could be one of the best, lets just hope he gets his distractions behind him and breaks Sticks's goal kicking record.

With this young man, anything is possible.

I read on TC not long ago that Ralph Carr left the board and will become Fevs manager which may help both parties agree to a fair deal.

Greg Swann stated on SEN a while back that if/ when Fev was offered a new contract it would be a 2 year contract, not one.

To be listed as a veteran, you must be 30 years old by 30 September of that year AND have been on a primary list for 10 years (AFL Season Guide p.339)

That means that Fev won't be eligible for Veteran status until 2011.

No, Al Lynch has won Fevs contract for management.

I think he will stay, but obviously a lot of water is still to go under the bridge.

The preferred outcome is Fev keeps up with his current level of dedication I am sure he wants to stay, and I am sure the majority of Carlton supporters feel the same way.

I will admit to being a big Fev fan, going week and weekout from 2003-06, there have been so many games where the only ray of light has been Fev. He has obviously had a few spits, but in terms of keeping the club marketable and appealing to younger fans, he was the only A grade player we had.

Touchwood, he hasnt had any serious injury concerns thus far, so he could easily play until 33-34.

Doesn't the AFL want to get rid of the veterans rule anyway because it's undermining the salary cap to much? I reckon if the AFLPA gets their way with free agency in the end, then the veteran's rule will go as the quid pro quo.

Very good point, and one I was going to mention.

Fev for a long time was the only real marquee player we had - one that was always good with the fans and, after Kouta left - 'the face of Carlton'.

Now Judd and Fev are the most marketable players of the club, both bringing in their worth in memberships and jumpers.

This value has to be taken into consideration when the club decides on Fev's future.

I'd love for him to sign a 2-3 year deal, decent salary with performance based incentives - and an instant escape clause pending any further off-field indescretions.

His performance - and not just this year - warrants it.

While some people may say coming into the last year of his contract he has really lifted his game, I'd like to think he has always given his all year in year out, and being injury free with a decent pre-season - has recently hit a purple patch at the right time.

If we could get all that, it would be worth it for both sides.
Remember Simon Beasley from Footscray? Was paid a base salary plus $x per goal (I think it was $100!) one year and it was th only year he kicked more than 100 goals IIR. The downside of course, is that he probably never passed it (the ball, that is.)

May as well as ask how much currency does Judd or Murphy has? Jeez.

When the team reaches its potential Fev will be a 100 goal a year player. That means a premiership. Fev can be a goose off field, yes and on sometimes, but he can also be magical, inspiring and a genuis. Fact is, Fev loves the club and we love our sometime brat. Seeing him in another jumper just would not be right. If he wins a Norm Smith medal let it be in Blue.

Spot on Bluemark. Spot on. He will kick 100, and that alone is enough to keep him. Give him a 2 year contract and get him signed. Then we can get over all this trade rubbish and get on with possitives.

You would only trade him if you got an exceptional deal, he's too good a player now and the other thing is we have bugger all other forwards of real note so it'd be a huge call to get rid of him.

Probably better to keep him and try and find a CHF to assist him as we go forward.

We really need a CHF.

Lynch/Voss its all Velocity management...Fev would be smart to keep his options open and I have no doubt Voss will coach Gold Coast and be into Fev bigtime to sign up.
Its up to Carlton to retain Fev and pay him what he is worth.......I wouldnt be wanting a 2 year deal either.....leave him open to a big offer from GC, that would be stupidity and end up being a dutch auction for his services.
I'd be offering him 3 years minimum with clauses about behaviour etc.....

Voss has a conflict of interest if he is indeed the new GC coach and running around signing players on behalf of Velocity.....no surprise he has some good Qld kids on the books as well as his old buddies in Black and Brown....
