Ratts not confident on O'hailpin, sounds as though he is gone this week!

..if that's the case, Harts better get primed.. ..after that cheap-shot in rnd 1 he needs to really work hard.. ..been with us a while now, and i realise injuries and Kennedy deprived him of chances, but all the same it's his opportunity now and i reckon underperforming players will be given a couple of chances but afterwards get dropped, as is happenin' mebbe for the big Setant..

Just caught bits of it but here's what was said.

O'Hailpin is a forward but has been quiet last few weeks and his position will be discussed this week.

Carrazzo his best player last week with Judd and Fev.

Judd the difference against Melbourne.

Kruezer a pure Ruckman and will continue to be played in that role.

Believes Kouta's form patch in early 2000's was better than Franklins form this year.

Rapt with two wins in a row, reward for hard work.

Melbourne score was lowest against since Rd19 2004 against Essendon*.

Happy Thornton got off, vital player with Waite, Bower and Jamo in defence.

Not much else, looking forward to crows and continuing winning streak.

On the Kouta comment, Kouta played anywhere and everywhere and dominated anyone, Franklin is just a forward (Pretty damn good one though).

Carrazzo and Scotland and Simmo actually have really made a difference the past two weeks now they are having decent input.

Really? Carrots was a magnet (no news there) but I thought his disposal was really poor again on the weekend. He kicked to Eddie when he had 3 Melbourne players on him - resulted in a goal. A couple of passes he made into the forward 50 were herendous. I'm not disputing his effort at all, and I love the guy, but I'm surprised Ratten said he was the best behind Judd and Fev. Hadley, Murph, Waite to name a few were far more influential I thought.

agree with everything there.

o'hailpin's position as a forward needs to be considered and imo he should be sent back to defence.

carrazzo was a lot better this game than he has been in previous games this season. even his kicking efficiency was 91% and i much prefer him playing in the back half of the ground.

i'm rapt that he's playing kreuzer as a ruckman. a lot of supporters wanted him to b played at centre half forward but i think that's too hard an ask on a first year player and he should imo spend the majority of his time on the ground developing afl ruck experience. he can always have a rest in the forward line when he needs to. i'd like to see him spend a bit more time on the ground in the upcoming weeks too.

kouta's 2000 form is atm better than franklin this year. until franklin completes the season playing as good as he has in the first 5 rounds there shouldn't even be a comparison.

I heard the Ratts' interview as well. He was almost reluctant to comment on Setanta. There is no doubt he gave the impression that his spot is under the pump this week.

The difference this year for Carlton is that Setanta can no longer be simply seen as a development player. I think that this is a good thing. If he is in form and match ups permit, he is picked. If not, he plays magoos.

Setanta is no longer an engaging side-project for the club. He is not a kid, he is a senior player at 25 and should be picked (or dropped) on merit. I got the impression that this was the point that Ratts was trying to make - he is no different to anyone else and his form will be assessed.

This is a good thing. I like Setanta and want him to make it, but no more than I want Hartlett or Edwards or anyone else.

Fair call. I just trust that anyone else plays with as much passion and pride for the Blues, as the Irishman.

Coaches give players a task and role to play. They will reward those that carry out instructions more than high possession winners. Ratts was obviously happy with carazzo's game in regard to what he wanted him to achieve. Others may have looked better and had better stats but for example, allowed their opponent too much latitude. Carrazzo is one of those players who can do 2 clanger kicks and its all anyone will remember. If Judd does 2 clanger kicks, we'll remember the 5 bullet passes to forwards. Its all about perception and bias.

Ratts is the coach. If he says Carrazzo was his 3rd best player, there is a reason.

When our man Carrazzo hits Fevola with 5 bullet passess - we certainly will remember it.

I'll say this about Ratts, once his mind is made up about something/some-one, he certaintly doesn't change it easily. For that I applaude him and respect him. Hopefully his more right than wrong and so far he has the runs on the board, inparticular Waite.

Keep up the good work Ratts :-D as I for one love to be wrong, well atleast not with O'hAilpin anyway. :P

Seems to have changed his mind on Big K Surrey. I remember him saying he would only be used sparingly in the ruck - blah d blah d blah. And if Ratts says Setanta ia a forward then his subtext is that he wants him off the list. Setanat is not a forward and certainly not in the role they have him in.

I think the comment about Kreuz was based on how he thought he would go rather than how he has performed so far, which is remarkably well.

The kid is tough and doesn't shirk a contest. Gotta love his efforts - 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Ratten's coaching disrespects the difficulty of playing at Center Half Forward. He concurs with the modern erroneous view that because the game is quicker the position does not require the nous, mobility and strength that it used to. In otherwords modern play bypasses the pivot at Center Half Forward. Subsequently, he puts a guy whose weakest attribute is reading the play (Setanta) in that position. Setanta is clearly a backman and pinch hitting Ruckman. We are crucifying him at Center Half Forward. There is only one player capable of playing center half forward at Carlton at the moment and that is Jarrad Waite. Why? because he has the body, the nous and the experience. Cloke to Slow, Hartlett too inexperienced, Setanta can not read the play. We won't be able to play with Fev as the sole focal point every week. Setanta to Center Half Back and Waite to the Forward Line.
