Essendon* have been very clever with their dream time and Anzac day games and Collingwood has their blockbuster games. Carlton has up to now not managed to come up with something similar

Whilst the name of the game is gate receipts. indirectly it is also build up the supporter base. I thought it might be fruitful to kick off a thread with some suggestions

My first suggestion is the Jack Dyer/John Nicholls cup It could use the 4 grandfinal clashes 69,72,73 and 82. 2 wins each as theme . Richmond might have been bottom dwellers for 25 years, but they played in 7 grand finals between 67 and 82. 4 Flags. A few wins and you will see tiger fans come out of the woodwork. Now Kevin Bartlett is back in the fold maybe a KB/JN cup

My other suggestion is Carlton/Swans[South Melbourne]A tribute to the
grand final of 1945 .First the Swans game do not draw big crowds in Melb
and Carlton have always drawn as big a crowd in Sydney. Perhaps a blockbuster Queens Birthday Sunday if not Monday at Olympic Stadium
could rival the Collingwood game and keep faith with our Blues supporters in the biggest state. The hype would help build up our NSW supporter base and maybe encourage Swans fans to make the trip to Melbourne for the return game. If this idea is accepted then an Easter and QB weekends could make a trip interstate attractive for fans of both sides. Alternating each year.

I'd be for the Blues Swines match purely for selfish reasons

What about the Bartlett Doull Cup as a tribute to the two long-term players on each side during the peak periods for both sides ..

What about the Kevin Bartlett Box Seat Cup, with a life-size Chris Judd trophy to the winner?

When you have a strong Carlton, Scum and Filth and even Ninthmond  - you have Blockbuster Crowds by definition. 80,000 + without even trying.

Maybe that's what you need to work on.

Both Collingwood and Essendon* can pull the big crowd numbers regardless of onfield success/non-success.

Its unfortunate that our club has been well behind the eight ball in regards to creating block buster games.

they couldn't get good friday up. the scum are about to announce another 2 blockbuster games another with richmond which will be sponsored by the unions.

Freo and Port used to play for the most important cup. The Fat-Rat's-Clacker cup.

I am interested in a positive comment/suggestion from melvey in how to get blockbusters games. You dont just say this is a blockbuster so 80,000 will come

You have to promote the game and for that you need a theme

The game is still played, and the cup still awarded - alas the hype died in the arse because no-one gives a fat rat's clacker about Freo.

Theme shmeme.

I'm bored of all the themes. They're forced and tiresome.

True blockbusters evolve naturally.

I agree.
More games like round 3 '07 is what's needed.

Maybe we could call it the ....... Fevola Cup?
....... Shove It Up The Bombers Cup?
....... The Bombers Recurring Nightmare Cup?

Nah, none of those are any good, but hey - I'm open for suggestions!

I wonder how team unity is going at the scum since he said that he would happily trade half his team-mates for Judd?

Wanker!

Lloyd's Hair Gel Cup?
Essendon* Suck Cup?
We Never Lost to Collingwood Cup?

Lets look at the Anzac day blockbuster Coll/Ess

what about the Queens Birthday Melb/Coll

the Sydney blockbuster Sydney/Coll

Easter Monday this year Coll/ North

Dreamtime and so on.

How did they evolve and why cant we put some positive thought into helping another evolve this time including Carlton

Exactly when we're back on top all our games are blockbusters.
