This could be rumour but a very reliable source(The one who told me that Pratt was going to be president a few months ago) that Richard Pratt has had dinner with Riewoldt not too long ago. Now Riewoldt Carlton would be very exciting!
I don't like to say too much but this is what I'm hearing!

Interesting to see how we would get him and what we would trade off for him?0

I wouldn't have thought Dick would even know who Nick Riewoldt was...but I'm sure that he has a job at Visy for Grant Thomas!

Bring it awwnnn! And, yes - trade him for some of the names we don't seem to be rotating as much as we used to / should be!

Not going to happen. The only way we could do it is if we had pick 1 in the PSD and they had to trade him. Saints won't trade him unless it's an offer they can't refuse (i.e Gibbs and Murphy). Think of it from our position, would you trade Murphy or Gibbs lightly? the only thing that could happen is that he either re-signs before the trade period or is uncontracted at the end of the trade period and faces the choice between going to the wooden spoon tigers or remaining at Stkilda. And if that was the case I'd have my money on him remaining at Stkilda.

I get the feeling Mr Pratt will have dinner with every single high-profile out-of-contract *superstar* before the end of the season. 8)

Sounds very unlikely. Clubs are not allowed to talk to players who are still under contract. So "if" Pratt would do something like this it would be done in strict secrecy and we would not read about it. Seems Pratt is very busy - the other week he was supposed to have had a meeting with Judd when we played WC.

IMHO its all just wishfull thinking..... 9-1 that NR stays at St. Kilda....

Why is it always dinner at the house with these sort of things. Why can't it be a plane ride in Dick's private jet, or something more exotic like a journey on one of his yachts.

Yep....and the house wasn't mentioned....Anyone been there? I've heard it is enough to turn the head of even the most overpaid players in the AFL.

I seem to remember that Kosi made sure a photograph was taken of him leaving Princes Park in the middle of his contract negotiations a couple of years back.

would have helped get some extra gravy on contract.

I say spread this rumour far and wide, only two things can happen, we might get him, or the Saints might be forced to pay more than they were prepared to. Win win.

If we get reiwolt we lose Kennedy, another player, and a draft pick at the minimum.

But who wants a big sooky?

This trade period with Pratt at the helm is going to be interesting!!!!!!!

Can pratt give a new player obtained in the trade period a job at visy doing bugger all one day a week, and pay him around 100K???

Would that be possible??

I don't see how, but i thought i would ask the question for those in the know.... :)

Mikkey my friend it's amazing how money can talk these days. Let's wait and see what happens. Could be bullshit but if this scenario did come up what would be the cost's?

Would rather Dal Santo.

In all seriousness, we have enough tall options - as good as Riewoldt is, Dal Santo would improve our side a heap more.

Don't you mean 1-9 on? 9-1 is pretty good odds. :P

FF, I *think* that this sort of thinking was what Essendon* gone done for when they last broke the salary cap, and subsequently received an $80k fine. Something to do with Matthew Lloyd or James Hird and purchasing websites?! Either that or I'm barking up the wrong tree... either way I'd dare say that unless there is a loophole that it wouldn't be allowed.

As for Reiwoldt coming to Carlton, I'd love it - but I doubt it. Still, you never know - didn't we all think that Stevens was destined for the Pies, or staying with Port? The only question mark is about the captaincy at the Saints, with Nick having a taste of it - well... or we could do the Magpies caper, snare the younger Reiwoldt's, then get Nick. 8)

Carlton is the most attractive team in Victoria.

Greatest history in the League
List with the greatest upside
Redevelopment of elite player facilities
Growing big name coaching panel
Legends club
Amazing and influential President
Good news story in the media (kicking 75 goals in 4 weeks)
etc

Why wouldn't Pratty be able to snag a 'big' name or 2...we have a deep list of youthful talent with currency to burn and we are past draft penalties, and can play the trade game. We're back in the game again; on our terms. We are Carlton and have Carlton to offer.

Maybe we don't snag Reiwoldt, but I bet we (with Pratt's help) do snag someone to add to our guaranteed boom recruit in 2008; Nick Stevens.

A ready made young ruckman and a great young midfielder would be nice for 2008.
