I reckon the 48 point lead dead set flattered Essendon*.

They were playing a labour intensive chip-and-run around the flanks style of footy. Might work on the SCG but 4 quarters of that on the MCG ain't gunna happen. Whenever we got the ball in the first half (which admittedly was rare) we pretty much had the run of the corridor.

As Essendon* inevitably tired in the third, and we got more ball, we skittled them horribly, and they couldn't stem the bleeding. Once our confidence lifted and our pressure was being more regularly rewarded (not by the scum officiating mind you) Essendon* crumbled under the pressure. More evidence to support the "Essendon* are soft front-runners" theory.

As a Carlton supporter, that game was bloody fantastic, one of the all-time greats.

As a footy fan, to quote Malcolm Blight, it was an intriguing game.

Top stuff - apart from the officiating this game is why our code is the best in the world.

Also just watched the replay, what stood out to me was our pressure on the man and tackling in the 3rd and 4th quarter. And of course the bull$%it frees didnt happen as much in the second half.

Simpsons run in the 2nd half very very important
Benticks toughness around the ball just about won us the game
Lappin important touches all game
Thornton on Lucas
Fevola of course... the bloke towelled up 2 of the ( so called ) best defenders in the game... i love it when he sits on Fletchers head!!
Murphy fantastic

LLoyds little after goal dance = moorecrofts cheesy grin

You would imagine the Scientologist head honchos would have LLoyd marked down as someone to recruit. That is if he hasnt already become one.

I saw highlights. They went through the McVeigh and Houlihan marks and discussed them.

In the McVeigh mark, whay wasn't Setanta paid a free for holding off the ball? Lloyd clearly has a handful of his jumper.

I think the game proved we have to be VERY careful when teams dont give us space inside our forward 50...
The only time we look like a top 8 side is when Fev/ Fish have room to move inside the 50- we really need a plan to leave our forward line as open as possible, otherwise we will get shat on like we did in the first half..

i understand we started winning clearances in the second half and hence were able to move the ball quicker into the 50, but its still a key area of concern the coaching staff needs to address.

Did anyone see the bit where Fevola ran down Lovett and caught him from about a 15m head start??

It just goes to show that Fev has pace to burn. If they put it out in front of him and prevent defenders from filling the hole he will get it every time.

Not to mention McVeigh's hands in T-bird's back. :x

Yeah....me too....and we won again....and McVeigh put his hands on T Bird's back; and got rewarded with a goal instead of being penalised with a free kick to us.

And the Giesch says the decision was correct.............

......and Hoops wasn't?..........................................

yeah........ i was suprised how loud the crowd was when fevola kicked the goal late in the 2nd :-D

i think the crowd helped the result a bit.... soon as we got on a little bit of a roll alot of Essendon* supporters started to remember why they hate playing Carlton

sometimes it rubs off.

i always thought we had a chance because the reason we were losing was because we were playing so shit!

Whoever told the players at halftime to play the boundaries a bit more when in doubt on the halfback line is a genius 8)

The spoil on Lucas, and a couple of clever baulks and inside 50s... and not embarassed by Hird..... tackled like he'd been playing for 10 years, again.....

That Murphy's a fairly handy player too

Just watch out for R. Kelly, he'll pull out his gun if he isn't told why Lloydy's in the closet with Tom.

I took my g/f's Essendon* supporting 8yo to his first ever live AFL match on Sat. Ten mins into the second 1/4 he turned to me and asked "Why are the Bombers getting all the free kicks?". I had no answer for him.

(Lil' Miss Wojee only took 15 mins into the first 1/4 to ask the same question)

Didn't get the paper today. Can anyone tell me in the stats how many goals from frees the bummers were showing?

3 :-D

What it doesn't show is goals kicked when a free kick should have been paid.
