That gives us 3 roster openings as well as allowing for 5 rookies to be added to the list without trades.
As much as people want to keep our draft picks this season I really feel that Carlton should trade them IF they get good value in return. We're at a stage in our development where we are very close to being able to take the next step. If we had to trade say a depth/developmental player (say a Grigg or a Browne) and our first round pick to secure a young gun player such as Travis Boak from Port Power then I'd do it. I'd also trade our second and third round selections if we could secure a player who would be an immediate selection into our best 18 and is young enough to be a long-term solution.
Anderson is definitely a part of Carlton's future. I believe he can become a heck of a player in a year or two. I would not give up on him. In fact, I'd be extending his contract a further year or two when he comes up for re-signing next year. Note that the only players competing with him at his position that are younger are Browne and potentially Rhys O'Keeffe. The only players on our list younger than him getting a regular game are Gibbs, Kreuz, Robbo and AJ (two of them were the #1 picks in the draft!)
There is no need to promote Garlett yet, he can be a nominated rookie next year. I dont think there will be too many changes to our list this year.
