Dew... the fattest most unprofessional footballer with dodgy hammies is allowed to run onto a loose ball with noone on the defensive side...(Anyone at all.. it happens every week)
Why wouldnt this bloke be run ragged up and down up and down up and down....???
Anyone playing on him should have a field day getting him buggered in 5 mins....
Although that sounds fine in theory and would have worked even just a few years ago or if he played for Collingwood, it is probably only applicable in a few phases of play with the Hawks.
Due to the Hawks zoning so much he doesn't need to let himself be run ragged, he can just on most occasions let his man go without suffering defensive consequences, as long as he defends his area, but at the same time he is freed up to be used when they have the ball, because you have galloped off and he has just waved bye.
Dew himself has stated that without the use of the zone he would struggle at AFL level.
