After Murphy's 9 pointer in the third, ball bounced in the centre - Simpson tears in off the half forward flank and swoops on the loose ball - rides the bump - handballs to Stevens in the centre who handballs backwards to Johnson - deadly left foot to the forward 50 for Gibbs to mark - hanbballs over to the hard running Simpson who runs inside 50 and nails the goal.

Even if Hawthorn were trying there is no way they could've stopped that. Absolutely DESTROYED them!

I felt Carlton were well below their best and without meaning to sound arrogant should have belted the team Hawthorn fielded.

When Carlton creates run of the HB line and midfield they can be very good. When they stagnate and become flat footed, they are ordinary (see first quarter).

Carltons challenge is being able to consistently put pressure on the ball carrier when defending and taking the right options when attacking. Too many times did Carlton sort of zone off in defence and allow the Hawks quick movement of the ball through the middle of the ground which set up alot of good forward attacks and relatively easy goals.

Carlton showed that when it is able to exert defensive pressure through the midfield and forward line, that they are a force to be reckoned with. The problem is that the boys need to show that more consistently if we are to taste finals this season
