And a lot of people here would argue he plays like a pick 72.

Fish was a TAC Cup Premiership Full Forward in his year - given he we didnt have much choice in 2002 Draft  - I reckon he was an absolute steal at Pick 72.

And seriously getting Simpson (at Pick 45) and Fisher (at Pick72) in that draft - we werent doing too bad (would still loved to have picked up Goddard and Wells) - but Simpson and Fisher will be 100 game players for Carlton and I reckon one of them will get to 200 games.

Fish had a horror year in front of goals (compared to his Season 2007) lets hope a good pre-season and a chance to recover from all his injuries -some work on his skills - and he will be looking at a 40+ goal return from him.

Guys like Fish, AW and Stevens will be the real barometers for the 09 Blues. If all 3 can remain fit and stay on the park playing consistent footy it will take the pressure off so many others around the ground.

From memory Karl Norman was pick 79 in the same draft as Fisher and Simpson.

What a waste of talent. :?

No to mention Lawrence Angwin. Now that was a waste of talent too.

Just goes to show that Shane O wasn't a bad spotter of talent. Intrigues me why he had so many middle to late hits and some very ordinary early misses :?

That draft had the potential to be quite unbelievable, pity half of them were knobs. I wonder if our senior players were like the leadership group mentioned by Ricky Nixon in a newspaper today whether Karl and Laurie's drug problem could have been nipped in the bud early.

Shane O'Sullivan was/is an excellent spotter of talent - its just that when he was head of recruiting he actually was never allowed to pick the players he wanted - Parkin's 'hard body/older player' philosophy took precedence at MC and Board Level and O'Sullivan had to pick the players he was told to pick.

You are spot on Grumpy. SOS remains one of the most maligned carlton officials on footy forums. It is a pity that some people who can him, don't really know what was happening behind the scenes. He would have his list which had been nutted out with a plethora of talent spotters over years or at least moths of research and parko and JE would say nah we need knuckle nuts who is a ready to go man not some soft kid who will take years of development.

So O'Sullivan didn't want Livingston, Vance, Sporn? He must've been furious.

If I remember rightly. He had Livo, Wiggo and Beasy on his lists, but not Sporn, Vance, Campbell etc. Geez, give me a break. I'm an old fella now. I do tend to to have selective memory. :P

He left about 15 minutes ago.
