I must say that Mike Sheahan did play 160 plus games for Werribee in the old VFA.....he has played the game at a Senior level.

Is that is why a lot of us rate him as Sh*t? :)

I, for one don’t Rate Ratten as a top Coach yet, but then again I must give him a go as this is his first year and when it comes to the other Coaches mentioned especially when it comes to Matthew Knights (Essendon*) I cant see him being rated higher than Ratten because of his Game plans, that he gets them to run and run all day causing all the massive injuries they had all year.

Knights has taken over a team that won 10 games last year.
At this stage last year Essendon* had won 2 more games and had 91%.

Ratten has won 6 more games than last year and increased our % by around 20%.
All that with a younger list and younger team every week.

I also find it interesting that Essendons list are "washed up hacks". If they're so washed up, why did'nt they delist more of them?
Instead they retained their players and passed on their final pick in the national draft.
That tells me Knights has little idea on how to assess and manage a list. A fundamental of leading a football department.

Yeah but theyre doing ok...

They dont have the luxury of a Judd...a Fev and a handfull of pick 1s...
They dont have rucks..
They dont have 'no name' defenders.... Harry O and Goldsack etc...i named them but thats cos i know footy...
They cant even boast about their midfield... yet theyre there........!!!...... again!!!!
They have even dropped their best player and their ball carrying half back flanker....

impressive...

Wasn't their draw soft though Synners? I know when it was released everyone thought the Pies had an armchair ride to the finals.

As a moderator I should not need to tell you to stick to the topic.

It's Knights v Ratten and at the moment it is 2-nil.

You crack me up everytime. :-D

Ratts is a big boy.. he can handle me .. easily....!!!!

BUT.. can he handle the job of coaching a pretty good.. but inexperienced list in a VERY WEAK competition????

So far he cant..... cos were still doing the same things we did ... 6 months ago.... and getting done each time...

My favourite analogy for doing the same thing over and over and copping it was the Larry Holmes left hand jab....
If he was allowed to jab jab jab you in the face.....round after round.... he wouldnt knock you out with a massive hook or anything... but youd come out with a missing right eye......

So the moral of the Larry Holmes jab was do something to not get continually hit by it round after round or youre going to go down by it....

A smart coach would invent something to counter the Larry Holmes jab....not let him do it round after round....

Why was it soft????

Was it soft last year too????

Like why is everybodys draws soft and our are hard????

Theyre finishing with the soft draw we had after three rounds to begin ours...

But were still doing the same things...

sideways... chips... TBird... web... caught in the web.....

Whats changed????

If you ask me most games are winable cos the comp is soft this year....
But i know youre not going to ask me what i think about the comp being weak.. cos you know it too!!!... yes???

Agree Malthouse gets very ordinary sides in the finals and early 200s and even last year almost pulled off a miracle - one of the better coaches for getting the most out ordinary teams and teams all playing to the team plan - only won premierships with elite sides out West

Knights the jury is still out on - his best players are still lloyd lucas fletcher and has been assisted by the emergence of Hille as one of the premier ruckman of the AFL- Team has effectively treaded water this year and will inevitably slide because its top players are still older - Richmond I reckon are similiar its best players Richo Brown Johnson

Ratten jury still out - rebuilding a team battered from pillar to post for the last 5 years with fragile psyche - having to learn to win again and play a modern game style -after 5 years of playing 90s football - youngest list in the AFL but has 3 number one draft picks and brilliance of Judd and Fevola
