Eddie struggled a bit last year, but has been a marvel this year.
We forget he is only 21.
He is one of the best marks in the team. Must have very strong hands.
His enthusiasm is worth a lot to the team, without him doing anything else.

I love Eddie. One of my favourite players at the club. Show heart and never stops trying.

Would love to see him become a 250+ game player at the club.

Gotta thank Demetriou and Terry Wallace for Betts....

Congratulations Eddie... !!!... never any doubt youd make it... but its up to you to show us how great a player you will be... :-D

Yep sometimes it doesnt pay to be vindictive. :P

As for Eddie he has the potential to rival Syd Jackson as our greatest ever indigenous player - probably would have been given number 5 - if a certain someone didnt come to our club. :P

I'd like to have Austin Wonaemerri (sp) playing alongside him.

He would be leading 'the most improved' player at the club if we stopped the season and started giving the awards.

Great news, but was he going to go anywhere else anyway? I don't think so ..

Pagan obviously did a lot wrong but one thing we can be thankful for is that he pumped so many games into Eddie Betts in his first couple of years at the club.

in a post match interview on 774 betts commented that he was permitted/encouraged to go for his marks this season under ratten whereas it was frowned upon/discouraged by the previous coach.

The marking on the lead, around the ground has added a new dimension to eddies game which wasnt apparent under the previous coach.

I was one of those who actively questioned his spot in the side earlier in the season (based on previous years+preseason form) - more than happy to say that betts has done enough to cement a spot in the side now though :)

People forget Eddie was only 20yo all last season. For most people, that's 'kid' status... as in 'play the kids' and 'cut the kid some slack, he's still finding his feet'.

It's no surprise that he's stepping up a gear or two. That's what quality 'kids' do.

Go Eddie!!!

for myself - it was more an issue of whether betts had earnt his spot in the side (did enough to be retained). Whilst he was young - having other youngsters come in and out of the side and not receive the same level of opportunity to establish themselves was more the issue.

Betts was also very one dimensional (ie solely relied on crumbing) - though based on the 774 interview this can be largely attributed to the previous coach placing restrictions on what he should/shouldnt do (which makes you wonder how the previous coach has negatively influenced the development of other players that were around the club during those dark years)

Its about time Coaches - showed players some respect and allow them to demonstrate the skills, talents and strengths that they have at their disposal instead of square pegging them all the time.

It is great that Ratts has let Eddie loose - he should also think about letting:

- Clint Benjamin loose in a Senior Game at the MCG - let him run riot up and down the wings or centre of the ground.

- Aisake O'hAilpin - instruct the Bullants to play him across the wing/half back and let him run.

Lets see these two use their athletic abilities to their fullest.

:-D :-D :-D
