I like Eddie and Syd.

Although not sure about this bit.

Quote:
The 21-year-old forward admits that he is envious of Richmond and Essendon*’s indigenous players, who have the opportunity to play in the “Dreamtime” game at the MCG.

“That’s the game you would love to play in. It’s very special to a lot of indigenous players and most of us would love to be playing in it.”

What's the big deal really of this game? Because Sheeds decided to have a game call the Dreamtime at The G, it is now sacred! :garthp:

This is how stupid I am.

I only just realised this year that if you combine the colours of Essendon* and Richmond you get the colours of the Indigenous flag.

sorry to sound negative but I think the dreamtime game is a real wank, what happens when these teams don't any indigenous players in their teams?

It’s such a tradition
since when does 2-3 years of something make it 'a tradition' - that term gets used way too much these days

I like how 10 are promoting it like a special event, um, guys it's just another football game and it's between two shit teams.

nothing to see here folks, carry on.

Kind of ironic given the early nickname the club had.

Firstly apologies for going off topic.....

When even my 10 year old nephew, who is a WC supporter, questioned the wisdom of showing North v WC's of both Foxtel and Ch 10 last week you kinda start thinking that not a whole lot of thought went into the broadcasting rights "strategy" do you ?

And i am still waiting for my reply from the AFL responding to my criticism of their broadcasting arrangements.

Essendon* had a nickname which is insulting now so I guess you'll have to fill in the blanks

Blood ******* or blood-stained *******

Terrible now but (sadly) a reflection of the times in which it was used.

I complained so many times that you'd think they would have contacted me if for no other reason to tell me to shut up, and my opinion didn't count !

He won't be envious of Richmond and Essendon*'s indigenous players when we are playing in Grand Finals and they won't get to

Carlton had Syd Jackson in the team in the late 60's early 70's - as far as I know Essendon* did not have any aboriginal players in their team from the 1960's up until probably the 1980's.

It is yet another chance for Essendon* to re-write the history books with their PR machine.

In fairness, though, they did have an aboriginal player in the 1940's (McDonald) -but Carlton and Syd Jackson were the catalyst for change in the 1970's and beyond.

Kevin Sheedy invented cold fusion and time travel. With his time machine, he travelled back to the dreamtime (I believe he is referred to in some Aboriginal oral history, with a name which roughly translates to "Crazy pale fella with no teeth and stinking of booze"), and invented Marn Grook, the name of which he mumbled it in a drunken conversation with tribal elders which he thought was a press conference.

So, now you know why Essendon* is so entitled to such esteem by us all.
