And don't forget that we've kicked 17-9-111 twice already this season. :)

Maybe the planets are starting to re-align.

There is one very good reason why this mark will always be remembered as the Greatest Mark in VFL/AFL history and thats because:

IT IS THE GREATEST MARK IN VFL/AFL HISTORY

This is without a doubt the best thread I've ever read on TC and the old TBV!! ... and any other internet forum for that matter!!

I've lost count of the number of tingles up my spine I've had while reading it. There's some absolutely priceless recollections in here.... and so vivid too!

I knew we had a rich history but I have a much deeper appreciation of it now, thanks to this thread. Doesn't it make you so proud knowing you chose to support the Mighty Carlton Footy Club as Your Team!!! I'm so inspired after reading some of these posts that I'm ready to run through a brick wall for the Navy Blues!! LOL

My heartfelt thanks to everyone that made the effort to share their memories of our most Famous Day.

Best read ever!!

:-D :-D :-D

Whilst I'm told that I attended, I'm was too young to really remember.

So my story is from Ron Wearmouth - Collingwood Under 19's rover on that day.
" Ron tells the story that at half time with the Pies being miles ahead the entire Under 19's team who I think had played that day went to the MCG hotel for the rest of the day.

They walked into the dinner that night under the weather and having forgotten about the 2nd half told everyone how fantastic it was and where the Cup was because he wanted a picture of it."

Ron Richards finally took him aside and told him to SHUT UP if he ever wanted to play for the club again as they had lost!

I'm relaying this tale. He tells it far better but the true meaning is evident.

WHAT A GREAT DAY FOT THE NAVY BLUES!!

I was 7.
Didnt go but I reckon this game got me interested in footy to the point where i became a fanatic.
I supported Carlton in a vague way because blue was my favourite colour. From that day on I bought a jumper and listened every week on the radio if the Blues were on the radio.

My only memory of the actual day was running into the bathroom where dad was in the bath and telling him that we were 7 goals down at the half and had won and I am going to barrack for Carlton good and proper.
The household was never the same.

The game is the ultimate game
the ultimate crowd
the ultimate mark
the ultimate coaching message(handball)
the ultimate fairy tale( Hopkins)
the ultimate last goal(Jezzas slow bouncing goal )
The ultimate Collingwood loss

What a game

As an aside or bit of trivia on the Crosswell - Barassi connection. I believe that Brent Crosswell was in every premiership team that Ron Barassi ever coached. Great player & great coach.

but I remember in the weeks that followed we had this LP that 3KZ put out which was a radio recording of the match with Bietzel, Major and Rippon. Great fun. Still got it but it' s a bit scratched through overuse.

Great memories.

If you want to listen to the LP of the 1970 grand final there is a link to do it at the bottom of the following page
http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... al%2C+1970

I can't open up that file it comes up with a dialogue box which states:

Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted.

Can anyone help?
