In 07, the Hawks were number one in the AFL for goals from marks.
That will be a good test for our structure to see how the backline handles the hawks strengths. Will we try to block the space with extra numbers or get a 3rd man up at contests?
That has been a huge problem in the past. Some backmen have had their hands so full with an opponent that they refuse to peel off and assist a teammate.

Our midfield will be the interesting to observe imo. Can they get back quickly enough to support? Can they supply enough pressure to effect the Hawks delivery?
Does our new game style allow us the opportunity to be more effective when there is a turnover in the midfield? I believe it will.
Our midfield performed reasonably in raw numbers last year (clearances etc) but we conceded the most goals from stoppages in the AFL.
That cant continue.

Quality decision making will be the key.
We need to retain possession when the opposition get ahead of the ball (stop plays etc) and roll the dice when there is a fast break opportunity.
(run, carry and pump it long to one on ones in the forward 50)

Ah, its good to see the footy back! :-D

It continued last week - we got smashed in the clearances and Port scored heavily from them.

I get the feeling our mids are good enough now that as long as we get a contest from teh ruck position we'll hold our own. Last year we struggled to even get a contest.

True but Ports midfield are'nt the norm. They're generally accepted as the best in the business. Dont be too concerned.
14 other teams are in the same boat as us there.

Waite is our CHB and will be able to settle in there.

Mark Austin made his name as a defender; and was recruited to bolster our defence.

Supprising not to see Setanta or Aiske listed in the squad, a shame really. Looking forward to seeing Dennis Armfield play again. He showed some good promise last week and with a bit more game time, he could become a good player for us.

Greg Swann on SEN this morning said that Setanta has had a shoulder injury and is still recovering.

The last sentence, speaks volumes about why Judd being made captain was the right decision.
