Leave the "tumbling tumbleweed and man and his dog" type family days to to the other clubs with sorry histories.

So we under catered on ice-creams - big deal, teach your kid that they dont have to get an ice-cream just because their is an ice-cream van playing "Greensleeves" - what are they "Pavlov's dogs?

Be thankful that you support a club that can attract 7 to 10 thousand people to an event like this.

Shieldsy is doing ok. He said he was loving the weather but he seemed a little shy although when i saw him it was fairly early so he may have just been getting used to the set up having not really done a day like this before. Zaccy seemed very comfortable and both were good with the little kids.

Lachie Hill was up in the social club with Stevo and Hadley but wasn't getting much attention because people didn't know who he was... Personally I recognised him but I couldn't put a name to the face so was a little embarressed to have to ask who he was but he said he got that a lot and was up for a chat like all the players were. I must say that all the players seemed to be great with kids and happy to have a chat. I noticed that Army even suggested that someone take a picture from the other angle to avoid the sun.

Unfortunately we will be the ones with the tumbleweeds if we don't learn from previous mistakes.

I worked on the Hawthorn FC family day in a professional capacity for many years until about 2001. Even back then they had a far, far better set up than we have in 2008.

They had a massive on field merchandise shop with check outs working beautifully. They also had shite loads of food stalls, memebership marquees etc etc. Whe n they realised they were deficient in one area they had no quams about spending the extra $$ to get it right.

I'm not having a crack at the club for the sake of it - but I thought they should have seen the potential problems the day they signed CJ.

Anyway, I hope next year we will 'cater' for our members/supporters and perhaps they'll pull up a chair, grab a drink and stay a while longer.
