Bit early to be comparing Ratten to Pagan, even if the former hasn't won a game yet as coach.
The obvious similarity is both had a very young list. But that's where the similarities end.
Ratten we know is endevouring to implement a more possession-style game plan. While it's true we looked pretty darn average the other night, I think he needs to be given a hell of a lot more time before we hang him (Pagan had 5 years right!?).
Among the list of names who will probably play some senior football this year, you have the following who have played very little AFL football...
Bower - 12 games
Hadley - 41
Setanta - 34
Murphy - 35
Gibbs - 22
Jamison - 5
Hartlett - 4
Hampson - 2
Cloke - 27
Kreuzer - 0
Grigg - 22
Anderson - 5
Blackwell - 23
Jackson - 8
Russell - 29
And most of our mid-age players (Waite, Fisher, Walker, Carrazzo, Bentick etc) have -played under 100 games.
While it's true Pagan had most of these players at the club when he was coach, the cold hard reality is Pagan had the list for 5 years, and early on was unable to do anything with more experienced talent. Players like Hulme, McKay, Beaumont, Mckernan etc etc.
Pagan pissed a lot of personnel off, let's see how the players respond to Ratten.
Might well be Ratten's game plan is as ineffective as Pagan's, but in any event Ratten deserves some time.
As Gary Ayres said, you don't know what the hell you're doing out there until you've played 50 games. I'm pretty sure Ratts is simply doing the smart thing and taking the pressure off the boys (at least publicly anyway)
ps. I'm pretty sure Grigga's only played 5 games.
