Two that I would list...

1. Stephen Oliver. THAT game against West Coast where he looked like he could have been anything. He probably had the whole kitbag, but AFL footy wasn't his scene.
2. Ron DeIulio. A little harsh here given the number of games he played, but does anyone remember that first half of the season in 1992? Looked an absolute GUN! He ended up playing fair footy for us, but never to the extent that those first few games suggested.

Stephen Oliver , I remember all the media hype , " Is he coming will he stay" that went on for months maybe longer. Really could have been anything. I wonder if he has ever reflected & thought , I could have done that better. Some great names have come up , any remember Jimmy Canfield?

Jim Canfield is famous for wearing the #1 guernsey.

Tony Southcombe was a cult figure if ever there was one.
Red hair, big 70s style sidies, played with his glasses on and looked like Graeme Garden from The Goodies.
He came down from Bendigo as a mature age recruit - played 13 games and kicked 11 goals in 1977 and was gone again.

Tony was working as a stock & station agent in those days and used to commute to Melb to train and play. Basically he found the travelling too much.
Returned to the Bendigo League with great success, as a player and coach with premierships aplenty. Successful publican over many years, and last year coached Elmore to the flag in the Heathcote League.
''Bluey'' probably qualifies as a genuine local hero.

Absolutely.I went to primary school with Andrew and he was a freak at whatever he turned his hand to. His career ended far too early and i believe he would have been a Carlton great.

Hey Murraycary - thanks for the Southcombe update.
Good to hear that Elmore won the flag - they wear red with a white V like the local club where my son plays.

How many of us thought Callum Chambers was going to be a great pick up for us after the '05 pre-season....?

Was is Peter Kenny that played around 1986? I thought he had potential

I might have to consult Blueseum, but I seem to recall he was a medium forward from Canberra (#40?), and yeah, I remember him showing a bit from limited opportunities. We had Sticks, Sellers, Dorra, Kenny Hunter, Darren Ogier, Warren Ralph, Warren McKenzie, Peter Satori, Mick Gallagher at the time, so lots of competition for spots. Anyone know what happened to him?

Peter Kenny from Manuka A.C.T.... played 11 games in 1986 for 20 goals.

DOB: 13-05-59....183cm...82kg...wore guernsey #40.

As mentioned; wasn't quite up to the level required.

Cheers Warby. After I sent my earlier post I checked the Blueseum (and was impressed by my memory!!!) :-D

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=Peter+Kenny

I recall him being one of those players that never seemed to be given the same opportunities as some other players. He kicked a lot of goals in the Reserves, and seemed to handle himself well when given the chance at senior level (as evidenced by 20 goals from 11 games...and I bet he spent a lot of time on the bench in those 11 games). If he'd been at a different club at the time I reckon he would have had more opportunities.

It's not often I question the Blueseum, but the description of him as a 'small forward' doesn't quite fit with my memory of Kenny....I remember him as a medium who played tall for his size as a leading forward (a la Brendan Parker)....? Perhaps it was because he was that "tweener" size that contributed to his downfall? And it looks like he was a mature age recruit, so maybe the club didn't see the point in persisting with a 27 y.o. fringe player.

Killed us when he played for the Roy Boys ....... Unfortunately, by the time Frank pulled a CFC jumper on, everyone had worked out he had no left foot.

It was a shame really coz the bloke had some serious pace and was a good size.
