'THE Carlton faithful are overjoyed to have a favourite son in Brett Ratten as their coach for the next two years, but few happier than the "Thursday ladies", who meet in the social club at Princes Park every week.

The ladies adopted Ratten as their own a long time ago. They conduct their own best and fairest count every season, which the former Carlton skipper won three times.'

Great article, Ratts loves the meedya.

His memories of growing up are very familiar to me, yabbying and freedom.

Spoke to a a couple of the boys down at Mitcham this year who played under Ratts when he was coaching at Norwood. Both of them couldn't speak highly enough about him. His attention to detail, apparently, was excellent and if they happened to be down at three quarter time by a couple of goals, his positive approach to the playing group would 9/10 inspire the Norwood boys on to win the game.

They went on to make the GF that year and lost by a couple of goals to Scoresby who pulled away during the last quarter.

Great article by Connolly which picked up a bit of the spirit and soul of Ratten & Carlton. Well done!

Great article - the emotion and spirt was very evident. Exciting times ahead!

Yeah, nice piece. Particularly enjoyed "If they give me 100% and they make a few blues, I can live with that. But if they don't give me 100%, I can't live with that".

That's fair enough - allows players to have a bit of freedom, if they make a mistake, they won't be dragged but will be taught how to do it better next time either on the blower or during the week.

I have a suspicion Denis may have been in the "can't make mistakes basket; make a mistake and you're dragged immediately - no questions, even if you gave it 100%".

Best Blues article I've read in ages. Loved how he and Braddles stand out on Princes Park today and remember the crowd going ballistic. I'm so looking forward to being ballistic again.

Me too.

Don't know about that basketball though.

Shouldn't those kids have a footy in their hands 24/7?

Well, that's the most depressing homecoming I've ever witnessed.

Then again, he has come back to the slums.

Judge hin in 2008

Great article and he is a quality person who has a lot of respect in the Blues and the other clubs he has been involved in for his journey to become Blues senior coach

Will be great for the young list and will be a different when he has his own assistants and has had a proper pre season to undo the last year of the Pagan plan to properly impliment the Ratten plan

Look at the Saints took them half a season to adjust top the change of Lyon from GT so far Ratts has had 5 weeks and in most games been super competative.

Todays performance not a reflection of Ratten with the amount of senior players missing.

I will be very interested to see his assistant coaching panel for 2008 i wonder if he would chase Archer i know they are both very good friends and live very locally to each other.
