Is it just me, or do we seem to look like jogging when we are "running' with the ball? I have yet to see anyone that 'arches the back' and explodes away. Campo and Houlihan are examples of our joggers, perhaps they have to slow to wait for the rest of the team to run forward, I suppose based on our game plan but heavens how do we expect to transition to Fevola if we wait for everyone to catch up?

We just give away our chances when we have a transition but we don't move it with genuine pace.

We miss Chambers, but I don't think he is super quick, I beg to differ with all and sundry but we do not have anyone with geniune pace that can strech the opposition.

Simpson is one of our better runners , AW and Waite move over the ground ok, but I have seen AW run down in another game and I am sure a number of the crows where making ground on our guys today when we where running forward.

The grounds today are too good to have too many 'slower' types being midfielders. Bentick is not the mode of footballer we should be trying for in future. The message I would give to recruiters is to find the quickest in the land, let him be a receiver type but just be so quick when you have the ball.

Another point I raise is the muscle development and body shape defination. Look at the Cats and their lower body defination, the thighs and calves and aslo note the explosive turn of pace they seem to have. I wonder what Simpson would look like after three years if he was at Geelong?

PS. First post on TC.

Welcome PD.

I tend to agree with your sentiments about our lack of pace, but I have a feeling that the "jogging" is caused by indecision by the ball carrier.

PS: check out the invite to my place for next weekend's get-together in Sydney for Sydney TCers in the "Talking Socials" forum. I'm trying to get us Sydney TCers together through the season.

Welcome peterdeano!

You're right, we ARE lacking players with that explosive power. Fev's certainly got it, Kouta does (but thanks to his knees it doesn't translate to pace anymore).

Walker was always a 400/800 metre runner: not so much explosive speed, but speed-endurance.

So let's see, we now need:

Another ruckman
A 195cm key backman
A CHF
Muscle and pace through the midfield.
Players who can find a target by hand or foot under pressure.

Yep, that oughta just about do it.

Drugs are bad m'kay

The reason we aren't seeing it is because we don't really have many with genuine pace. Carrazzo does it from time to time and Chambers would do it if he ever manages to get fit but most of the rest of our player are either average speed or fast but not explosively so. They just can't get away with going to a run without getting caught or disposing of the ball poorly.

I've seen this post before in another thread and said we need to focus on what we really have and don't have. I believe threads have specific subjects and shouldn't be hijacked by some dissapointed supporters. I am getting through these dark days with a little help from Anger Management, can I reccomend someone for you?

My query is on the lack of pace in our team in the current version of the game, whilst Greg Williams was a champion his style of play is no longer found in the type of game being played at the moment. You are right about one thing, we are 3 years behind the other teams with developing players with speed.

Reckon we can fix all that in 4 years?
