Well there ya go. So much for my intuition :P

Was time for a change but i appreciate the effort Pagan put in.

Coaching Carlton the last few years would easily have been the worst job in football.

Edited to add - As for the money i don't blame him one bit. Not his fault we overpaid.

Thanks for your efforts with the club for the last 5 years and whilst I lost patience with you towards the end of your tenure, good luck with any future role you may have in footy or horse racing.

One question - did Denis thank any of his assistants at his press conference?

Yep he did, both current and former.

I thought that it was interesting, actually. He thanked many Carlton people for support over the duration, and then said thanks to Mulkeans and Elshaug by name -- yet none of the current crop were mentioned.

Probably nothing in it -- after all if he had to thank everybody individually he'd have been there for a while -- but noteworthy I thought.

To echo everybody else (mostly everybody else) I am happy that Denis is now not at the helm, yet I think that it is a credit to himself how he handled the press conference in what was a pretty difficult situation.

Now bring on Voss the boss

Oh yes, Dennis Pagan is the devil and was sent to destroy the club from the inside.

FFS, get over it, move on, get a life and leave this flower thread if you want to continue having cheap shots at a bloke who has more respect from his peers than some here could ever hope for.

This place is a rabble :( .

Gimme a break....the only ones pumping Pagans tyres up are the old the Pagan mafia ie Carey and Archer......Carey was pathetic on footy classified with his pitiful excuses for Pagans lack of sucess and Archer is a Ron Joseph boy who also happens to be a Pagan friend .
The man was on $650k a year.....dont give me this poor old Denis crap....
Denis hung onto the end to get his money and couldnt give a rats ar$e about anyone but Denis......what clown wouldnt talk to his Bullants coach considering we are rebuilding....a bigger man would have built a bridge if he cared about the club.

Proof that trolls aren't always in black and white  .

There's only about 8 threads for you to spit your venom, why come to the only thread to acknowledge someones efforts and infect it with your spite?

In case you haven't realised yet, footy's a business. DP was entitled to the money as was written in his contract, surely any forward thinking person can understand that?

Maybe you suspicion of Pagan says more about you than Denis. I'd bet my last dollar if a job came up coaching next season he'd walk away from the $750 and take it in an instant. He's the sort of person who is determined and competetive and doesn't see money as the be-all.

You seem p1ssed that Denis has left with dignity and respect, maybe you wanted him dragged through the mud and burnt at the stake.

Trolls....yeah right...and you have the credibility to be calling me a troll???
Now your telling me which threads I can contribute on?

Isn't the definition of a Troll someone who intentoinally posts with the sole intent of getting an adverse reaction?

You came into this thread for a fight, the topic alone should have been pretty obvious that it wasn't a 'bash Dennis' thread and yet here you are. Surprise, surprise.

You think your post count gives you more credibilty   I piss myself!!

Yeah thanks Arch.

From that article:

Quote:
Elliott, who yesterday denied hiring Pagan for political reasons in 2003, has already endorsed Michael Voss as Pagan's long-term replacement.

"I think Voss would be fantastic and I'd even try and have a Voss and (former coach David) Parkin combination, to help Michael in his first couple of years," Elliott said.

"And if Essendon* axe (Kevin) Sheedy, then he would be an outstanding candidate and would be worth looking at."

I remember very very vividly John Elliott on Talking Footy one night saying that because of the way he was a dirty sniper, especially in the 73 GF, Sheedy would never, ever be welcome at Carlton.

A simple case of win/win for everyone involved. Denis said all the right things in his final speach and left with dignity. Would love to know what he really thinks though

Yes, he showed great restraint when he could have turned to the excuses he used during his tenure. He was given plenty of chances but held back. In public, he was gracious and took the rap.

But I'm just glad he's gone.

One of the most interesting snippets was Sam Lane's piece in the Age quoting a player who noted the most remarkable aspect of Pagan's address to the players was the lack of emotion. And there was applause afterwards but no hand shakes.

And how tedious and predictable was the wheeling out of his great mate Archer to defend him and take a shot at the club? And Carey on Channel 9? As soon as someone mentions Pagan's name his eyes mist up. Caro was making points about the PERCEPTION, "rightly or wrongly", of Pagan as yesterday's man and all Carey wanted to do was tear strips of her.

Yes Kenny, Sam Lane's piece WAS interesting. Assuming it's on the money, that says everything.

The first thing the interim coach needs to do is take the players aside and tell them how disgraceful they have been over the last 5 weeks

As for Pagan yep handled the press conference with class . IMO he had to particularly given the payout he is going to get which comes back to how this club has been administrated.

Pagan was given a four year contract ( an extension) of some sort) after winning the
preseason cup. How flower was that.

Denis wont coach another club. His days as a senior coach are over.

He should of gone after the Hawks game. He had finally lost the players. The club has been too slow to react over the years to change and have made some stupid decisions.

Obviously there was a communication breakdown between Pagan and most of the players, but the players must be aware of their role in the pathetic peformances

Thats why I want the broom to be used further.

When you hate what youre doing.
The message isnt making sense.
You do not believe in your coach.
Youre beleted week in week out.
There is a mental fragility...

Thats what happens .. its natural.
Pagan had to go and we have to give a new head and a new voice a chance.

You just cant keep taking those Larry Holmes left hand jabs for 5 years and not be effected.
You have to do something.

Agree to some degree Sinners, but the players despite the poor managing of them have been ordinary to say the least.

You dont have to teach pride and some of the basics of footy to AFL players

I went to the Sydney game. The confidence was well and truly shot by then and a thrashing of sacking proportions was on the cards there and then, but IMO it goes far deeper than that.

Some of our players wernt fair dinkum. Simple as that. That aint the coaches fault

They have known that the reserves havent been travelling well and DP's reluctance along with the rest of the MC to take risks at the selection table means their almost guarenteed a game and their pay packets.

Guys like Houlihan and Scotland need to improve in areas of their games. They are 100+ game players yet have at times looked disinterested . Add Thornton to that as well. His last 5 weeks have been shit.

They should be all put on notice

Its time to play as a team and give it 100%
Otherwise piss off

I dont post to get reactions and never have so do your homework a bit better , you seem to have a habit of telling people what to do, what they can post and when, which I find amusing...its a forum for opinion if you have not noticed.
Your insecurity problem over you post count and weak bladder have been noted....
