My question deals with the Carlton Football Club song and is an old chestnut of mine.

Is the club aware that 2 versions of the club song are out there?

Should line five read,"... they like to send UP" or "... they like to send "US"?

I know the players are currently singing "US", and that "US" is written on the board in the Princes Park change rooms and is on the club's website, but what is the correct version?

The players do run onto the ground before each game, with the "UP" version playing.

Exactly when did the club's song (based on 'Lily of Laguna') become Carlton's official anthem, and have the original written lyrics of the Carlton version been stored somewhere?

From my understanding, most supporters would prefer "UP", despite what the players are currently singing. I am sure players of the past would have sung "UP".

Should the members have a vote on this matter?

Thank you. Now I'll shut UP. :-D

Although perhaps not as urgent or political as many of the other fine questions in this thread, I still think it embarrassing for the supporters not to know what their club song is. Also, it doesn't hurt to offer our guests a chance to research something a little 'less serious'.

Hi everyone,

Regarding the Q&A session this Tuesday, we're going to change the format a little this time to improve on the flow of the discussion.

This is how it will work.

The questions from this thread will be collated by the moderators and sent to Mark, Stephen and Zac by Sunday.

They'll prepare answers to the questions to start off the discussion on Tuesday. A Q&A thread will be created for this.

The Q&A thread will be open only to Mark, Stephen, Zac and 2-3 interviewers, who will be responsbile for following up on the answers given by the directors and asking any further questions. Everyone else will be able to view the discussion only.

The thread we're using now will remain open for everyone else to discuss the Q&A session and to put forward any questions that arise from the Q&A. The interviewers will be able to use these quesrtions if they feel they're appropriate.

The biggest hurdle we found from the Q&A's earlier this year was that it was hard to follow, not only for us, but especially for the those being questioned. There were more questions than they could answer and a lot of repeated questions, questions they couldn't reasonably be expected to answer or were focused on one topic for too long.

This will improve on the consistency of the questions being asked.

We're currently working out who the interviewers will be, but it will be a mix of moderators and non-moderators, people who have shown in the past they're capable of asking the right type of questions. We'll let you know before Tuesday who they'll be.

If you have any concerns about this or ideas on other ways to improve the Q&A's please let one of the moderating group know.

The only thing I ask is that they read all our concerns whether they can answer the questions or not. I know about confidentiality and all that, but it is important that they know how we are feeling eg. The Coaching Staff.

Fantastic question!

It would be nice to see this resolved by the club.

As an aside, does the club have an official historian?

I have a couple of selfish interstater based questions....

1) Is there anything the club can do to improve the situation with merchandise when they're interstate? One little corner of the Lions store and 5 products at the GC make it very hard to get something extra when I go to a game. (I can convince my wife more easily when it's a game day buy!!)

2) Will the club review the interstate memberships for effectiveness, to ensure that us 'foreigners' are supporting the club in the best way for both parties? (ie no interstate "family membership", family membership doesn't allow social club access in the same way that interstate membership does).

3) Can the club lobby the AFL in any way to ensure that Brisbane people aren't only given the Lions game every week?? Market growth in QLD is surely is as important for all the clubs as it is for the Lions.

4) Can we please, please beat Collingwood on August 4?? I'm coming to the match and I really want to enjoy _everything_ about it! :)

5) Are the "Securing our future" raffles providing a significant stream of income for the club, and if not, is the club reviewing how these can be modified in the future to better assist cash flows?

As mentioned by heaps already - thanks for the opportunity guys - always appreciated!

Thats all folks.

I am going to compile the questions now, so this thread is locked.

A reminder that the Q&A session will be happening tonight (tues)at 6:30pm.

In consultation with Mark H we have agreed to run this session slightly differently than the sessions prior to the previous board elections.

We will run dual threads. One in TalkingPolitics that will be accessed only by myself, BlueVain, mjonc, Molly and of course, Mark H, Stephen M and Zac F, if available, the other in the main forum that can be accessed by all.

buzzaaaah has collated the questions from this thread and presented them to Mark H. The directors will answer these questions in the Politics forum and we will have a discussion thread in the main forum in which all can participate in. The mods participating in this session will keep an eye on any of the discussion in the main forum and will present relevant questions to the directors.

We've decided to take this approach as a way to try and stop the machine gun question approach we experienced prior to the elections. We ask for your patience and trust this method will allow the board members to reply with meaningful answers to your questions in a timely manner.

A quick view of the main board shows that the position of Denis Pagan as senior coach is a hotly debated topic. However, we ask that you all respect the position of the board members during this Q&A session and refrain from asking if, when or how Pagan's tenure will be handled. There will be a question presented about reviewing the coaching positions at the club and anything else after that is unlikely to be asked again.

I'd like to thank Mark, Stephen and Zac, for agreeing to offer their time to us. As we can see the board has been working very hard to right the wrongs our club has been suffering over recent years, and we ask that you honour their commitment to us for the Q&A with due respect. I'd also like to thank TruBlueBrad, buzzaaaah and the mods for their part in coordinating this event.

Lastly, many of you will have noticed the TC server is operating under some load of late, hopefully we'll get through tomorrow night without too many issues on that front. If things are a little slow we ask for your understanding and patience. The server issue will be addressed in the next week or two and we should be able to move to a new dedicated TC server in that time. In the meantime, thanks again to Jarusa for his generosity in offering us server space for over two years now. Beyond the call of duty. Thank you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Q&A session with the board members will take place in this thread.
